This interesting video, shot by auto-motor-und-sport.de in the Californian Desert shows what appears to be live footage of the earlier reported spy shots of the long awaited MKVI (Mark 6) Golf. The model is penned to hit showrooms in towards the end of 2008 which some what cuts short the model life of the MKV Golf which is currently available.
Although the video shows what appears to be a heavily masked up test mule we can still pick out some interesting features of the car - all of which help to get a better idea of where Volkswagen plan to go with the new model. The side windows and door shape does seem very similar to that of the current MKV model and overall it could be argued this is simply a facelift out for testing. However, some have hinted that this model may be a repeat of the early MKII and MKIII era, which saw a cost effective mix of chassis design between the two, helping keep design costs down. Given that the MKVI has been brought forward we can only summise that the car must be, for want of a better term, a MK5.5....
