What cage Had To Say

I was quite surprised when I was 1st nominated by Marc (02Bora) and then received a 2nd nomination from Mark (Tabs), as they are some exceptional cars on the forum (probably the main reason why I nominated Estoril Blue’s old golf – IT’S JUST STUNNING).

When the voting started I really thought Turbodub would win this competition.

As the week progressed I was stunned to see that I had received over 50% of the votes and thought this couldn’t last as there was some strong competition, i.e. Thechief, Turbodub, Estoril Blue, etc.

I'd like to congratulate all the nominees in this competition as they all have very nice examples of (what can be described as very differently individually modded) Golfs. I would also like to thank everyone that voted for me and thank Marc and Mark (Tabs) for nominating me in the 1st place.

Full spec:

Well as many of you know, I took this car in part exchange from Turbo Paul for my old Audi S3 in July 2005.

At the point I took it off Paul, he had already started modding this Black Beauty, e.g. Anniversary Edition bodykit, 19” BBS CHs, Eibach Suspension.

In just under 7 months of ownership, I have changed the look of this car to what I felt suited my character (Dark and Moody). Lol!

The current mods I have on my car are as follows:

Engine:

  • 1.8T AUZ K03 turbo
  • Jabba Sport Engine Management Remap
  • Green Panel Filter
  • Full Samco Turbo Pipes
  • Baileys DV30 diverter valve
  • Milltek Stainless Cat-Back R32 style (Dual exit) Exhaust
  • Forge Motorsport Uprated Side Mount Intercooler
  • VW Corrado G60 Single Mass Flywheel
  • VW VR6 228mm Clutch Kit

Chassis:

  • 8.5x19 "  ASA AR1 (Black/Polished Lip) alloys
  • Eibach 50mm Springs and Koni Top adjustable shocks
  • Eibach Front and Rear uprated ARBs with uprated bushes
  • Anniversary 312mm Front Brake setup with Cross drilled discs.

Body Styling:

  • R32 Front and Rear Bumper
  • Anniversary Edition side skirts
  • Seat Cupra R front splitter
  • Front R32 Aero Wipers
  • Polo Rear Aero Wiper
  • Military Front/Rear VW badges
  • DUB badge
  • Hella (VW Euro spec) Red/Clear/Red/Red tail-lights
  • OEM Xenon (HID) headlights

Inside:

  • Audi Half/Leather sport sears with electric lumbar adjustment and under trays
  • R32 Steering Wheel
  • Anniversary Pedals
  • Brushed Aluminium Trim
  • R-Line 5 Speed Gear Knob
  • Headliner mounted Boost and Air/Fuel Ratio gauges
  • Climate Control
  • Touareg Torch
  • Illuminated Bora Vents

Ice:

  • Kenwood DDX6027 Multimedia A/V system
  • KCA-IP500 Ipod adapter and 30gb Black Ipod Video
  • Directed Audio Digital Mono Sub Amp
  • Directed Audio 12” Subwoofer/Enclosure
  • Directed Audio components (front/rear)
As you can see I have been very busy (in the short period of ownership) carrying out the modifications on my beast, but I am far from finished. Like most long term DUBBERS, a project car is never done and I have some more plans in the pipeline which I have to put on hold (due to my pending nuptials).

Future plans

  • KO3s Turbo
  • Dbilas Performance Cams and Vernier pulleys
  • Milltek 2.52 Downpipe and 100 cell Sport Cat
  • ATP or Eurojet Front Mount Intercooler
  • KW Variant 2 or FK Konigsport Coilovers
  • ECS tuning 308mm Rear Disc conversion
  • ECS tuning or Brembo 4-pot Brake Conversion
  • Headrest Monitors
  • Leather retrimmed parcel-shelf and headlining
  • Bora Sport or R32 instrument cluster

The above is what I am hoping to have done by the end of summer, in time for this year’s Edition 38 show.

I plan to have this car for a few more years, so who knows what direction I will go with the modifications. My mind changes so regularly that if someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse then I would let the “Black Beauty” go and purchase a Mk V Golf or Jetta GTi.
