Hot on the heels of the recent news on the MKVI Golf being unveiled by Volkswagen, it seems the test engineers in the USA have got their hands on what could be a 'test mule' Golf MK6 GTI. Evident from the, albeit heavily disguised styling, we can see larger front air intakes and removal of the fog lamps to increase air flow to the lower engine, gearbox and braking systems. Also evident is use of the now trademark honey comb grill styling, replacing the slightly MK4 esque horizontal grill design which has made a comeback into the MK6 Golfs design (and one that we at uk-mkivs are glad to see - no more 'chrome beard')
Also of note are the red brake calipers, although speculation exists which says these could just be parts bin specials helping to ensure this test vehicle can run for its grueling desert testing.
Moving to the rear of the vinyl covered Golf we can see it now sports twin exhausts, although they do seem reminiscent of the Audi A4 sport models and the MK4 R32, they do point a possible design change for VW in moving away from the traditional close group twin pipe design found on the recent MK5 GTI and R32.
Engine details are still not 100% at the moment, however sources near to Volkswagen have revealed that it will continue to utilise the 2.0 litre FSI Turbo with uprated output of around 211PS. This, apparently, has been achieved through thanks to the use of a new variable valve lift system, which also aids economy whilst satisfying emmissions standards for the range.
Keep an eye on the Paris Motorshow in October - Our tip says we'll be seeing a lot more of this car then.
