Does anyone know if there are any tuning boxes available for this car/engine yet?

    i can't see one, no

Not sure, most people go for a remap rather than a tuning box

From what I understand there is one, possibly 2 things in the 170 TDi engine that make power increases and remaps a bad thing. Keith (B44FY) was going to be coming on here today to ask about tuning MK5 GT 170 TDi Golfs as he is having no luck in finding anywhere that will map them, and that it because of these 1 or 2 weak parts.

how about www.norchip.co.uk then go to ECU remapping, select make and model hit submit

    £350 gives 200bhp and 410nm

Although i've never heard of this company and the gains aren't that big...

The main problem with tuning the 170PD is the DPF (diesel particulate filter) apparently...

I remember reading a thread over on seat-cupra.net where a remapped 170 had given fantastic gains and went like a rocket (around 220BHP iirc!!!) and the owner was understandably over the moon with the performance, until the DPF became blocked due to the extra 'soot' caused by the extra fuel burn of the remap and caught fire...... Surprise

Can you not just remove the DPF and away you go? :)  Much like the w@nky old carbon canister on my old 200SX - hey its only there for emissions and costs you performance so away you go! :)

All the power figures on my website are for normal safe maps. A PD 130 golf can make 200bhp :-).  These cars can make much more than 200bhp but as said the DPF is the problem. So you need to remap with no smoke.

Removing the Filter would be the way to go, but I am sure it will cause the CEL to come on. I have not looked at this car in depth yet but I think the Filter works on DP ( differential pressure ) so I am sure there would be a way round it if you did remove the filter.

    Hope that helps

still looking, Superchips 170 caught fire, a guy in Greece mapped his went ok then req new ecu & egr, but some(2 i can think off) have used rica tuning of bromsgrove to limited affect, http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=118906

only the TDi 170's seeem to have the dpf fitted, removing is an issue as its wired to the ecu.VAG group will be running with this engine as thier preffered TDi engine i believe, nightmare for people wanting to mod them.

Probably one of the main reasons VAG pefer it!!!

I expect they are fed up with warranty claims on modded motors LOL!

Got a TD 170 A3 on order - mainly because of the inability to remap safely, to stop me spending (although am keeping the R32 for a bit longer after A3 arrives) then may consider the new A4 Avant 3.0TDI in a year or so

Milltek now do a DPF replacement/performance pipe. When I last spoke to them at Castle Combe last autumn they were only going to supply it to a few tuners as a package with a matched remap, producing around the 220bhp mark.

Custom code also remap the 170 tdi.

I drive a Leon 170 FR and I mapped it at 3k it has now done 5k and have had no problems.

It has been remaped an extra 35bhp and 65nm

Mapping these cars is no problem whatsover.

The issue is that the "usual" method of tuning doesnt apply in the same way, we have to mae power in a different way which of course doesnt give as much as the conventional method hence power at around 200-205hp and +60-70Nm torque but the gains do make for a much more "pokey" drive.

At the moment Star performance have a 2.0 tdi Seat leon running 336bhp although they have upgraded the turbo to a hybrid.

this was a 140bhp standard model by the way.
