i got mine to day seems like the right one to me. will be fitting it on sat so ill let ya no how that goes.

the guy at VW said there is no such thing as the same part number with an 'A' at the end he even searched for it and it didnt exist with the 'A'!

he said there is only the one. and they fit both types of cable as the new part comes with a new black joint on it anyway.

got mine all fitted now. to be frank it aint all that!

but its well worth doing as its so cheap and onlt takes 10mins to fit!

it does make gear shifts feel just that tad more sporty.

    woo hooo

got mine fitted, not a massive difference by any mean, but a subtle change that make the car feel more responsive, tighter and more sporty.

worth the little money ! if you can find the part, i got the last pre-02, 5 speed in UK,

    importing now needed. lol

    Hmm Logic tells me that
Vw dealers are a "Network" .If parts dept A is out of stock they will usually get the part from parts dept B, C or D etc..
Once all the stock is dried out of a particular part that is not a consumable then it will have to be specially ordered in from Germany.

    I may be wrong tho.

Will this mod work with a 2002 Jetta/Bora?

I also see where this part is replaced by

    8N0 711 051 B - gearshift lever

    1J0 711 761 B - bowden cable catch

    N 908  159 03 -  lock washer

    Any  thoughts on this?

very easy to fit but not a great deal better than the stock one. the one with out the A should be the right one as the one with the A dosent acually exist. our cars should be the same and thats what i ordered.

when fitting remember to mark the rods so u dont have to se them up from scratch.

    good luck

Am I right in thinking I've read this doesn't fit a PD130 (ASZ engine code)??

Fitted one of these to my ASZ Bora a few months ago, No problems with the fitment, only hard part was removing the old one!

However like yourself I read these could not be fitted to the PD's but thought I would try it anyway as I had already bought it from a member off the TT forum, went straight on and does make a difference, i'm just not sure why other people have had a problem with themConfused

Chris - so they DO fit a PD 130??

There's no difference between our engines is there, being in a Bora and a Golf, they're both the same chassis and mounting anyway arent they?

Do you know the part number for the correct one that would fit my ASZ? and is it quite easy to install, or does it need lots of fiddling?

    Benn,

I'm almost certain that there are no differences between the Golf and Bora that would effect the way this fits, but I can't explain the problems other TDi owners have had trying to fit it, i'm going to have a look for the posts I read when I got mine and have a re-read.

I'll have a look to see if I can see the part number for you, The guy I bought it off had a 6 speed 225 TT which i think was an 02 reg.

The install was pretty straight forward Ray(ard) gave me hand with it, only took us 5mins and a hammerSurprise, my old one was tight so we sprayed some WD40 on it, the shifter lifts up slightly and we wedged something under it then tapped the top of the nut with a hammer to push it down.

I'll let you know about the part numberYes

It comes with a new socked part on it so you need to remove the old end from the cable but make sure you mark the cable well before you take it off

can u explain this  deeply _dippy ??
