Whilst trying to find the indicator bulb type for the Golf I found this table, which lists bulb types for the standard light units for the MK4 Golf and Bora.

As Bazmcc pointed out below there are more variations for the Golf \ Bora range and we need a guide to bulb fitments so I have created this list. If you can post updates \ additions in the thread below (please include vehicle details) i will try and keep the list at the top updated.

Nice find but that list is only true for some cases.  For example - tail light bulbs changed in 2002 and the indicators are wrong for certain years and headlight versions as well.  I'm guessing that might be an american list of bulbs??

Maybe we should get a lucas list and compare it.  I know for a fact that lucas even have a bulb listed wrong in their catalogue as well.  It's about time we had a decent list of the right bulbs.

Cool list, so i need:

2x  C5W bulbs for the number plate lights - i am after the really bright LED ones

1x  382 P21W Single filament bulb as a fog light

 for an 05 Bora

Correct??? 

The fog light bulb is correct if it is the rear you are after , not sure on the number plate as I think they may be festoon type, if someone can verify one way or the other I will update the list

Would this be suitable as a rear fog light, if the LED were red? 

That would be a replacement for the fog ligfht bulb but unless you have a clear cluster you wouldn't need a red LED as the normal bulb is clear and it is the lense that imparts the colour.

The lenses should never need to be drilled and don't take any list as gospel.  Simply take the bulb holder out of the back and see what bulbs you need.  Should be too hard.  Criteria is just, 12V, offset or standard pins? does it fit through the aperature, do you need tinted or does the lense have a coloured reflector.  No mods should ever be needed to make any taillight bulbs fit, if they don't fit, you've bought the wrong bulbs.

Standard OEM driver rear light housing, 2 holes t the bottom for reversing and fog lights

 Here's the GLI rear driver housing, only the reverse light is drilled

And yes, i did climb into the boot for the last picture 

Could be worth al you guys with US spec rears to check this out, as it can cause an MOT fail

Sidelights: H6W

Indicators: H21W

Low Beam: D2S

High Beam: H7

Number plate bulbs on 1999 Golf are 39mm Festoon type

Rear tail light bulb in mine is a 245 R10 bulb

Hi

 For the Mk IV Golf , the chart at the top (& the linked GE chart) gives Main beam = H7 & Dip = H1 -  but the tags on the illustrations are the other way around!

 Please could someone confirm which is correct?

(One of my Dip beam bulbs has just gone and I need to get some new ones URGENTLY!)

Just to clarify before i buy... I need 39mm festoon type bulb for my rear number plate? Which i believe is also the same as the middle interior light ??

 Ive got a mk4 golf 2003 plate by the way!

Aha well im going to do the number plate bulb (39mm festoon) the middle interior bulb (39mm festoon) and the 2 outer middle interior bulbs (501's i believe same as sidelights) as i was so pleased with my quad LED sidelights !

They were sold as 'bright white' but have a blue tint to them but in this picture they look really blue!..?

Please excuse how dirty she is.. :P
