I had one of the Halfrauds lights which get very hot also a hairdryer! I think I allowed around 30-60 mins

Good to hear you guys are trying variations on the Sharan badge mod. I've seen a few silver Golfs with the Black VW badge to and they look pretty good

I'm glad, and a little upset you said that, as I'm in the process of doing this, front will be black on a silver grill, anni headlights either side, and back is black Golf badge colour coded backing.

 finally put my badge on looks really good i think.

Just doing my Badge now, although it's a Standard golf one with a Black VW. I've done one coat of Primer, then lightly sanded, just added another coat primer, am I right in thinking that I should now:

1st coat of paint

Sand 1200

2nd coat Paint

3rd coat Paint

4th coat Paint

Finally lacquer (how many coats)

Is this right? It's reflex silver if it makes any difference.

 i did 3 coats primer, 3 coats paint, 2 coats lacquer. sanded after each coat of primer but only after the first coat of paint. mine is canyon red.

Did you WET sand? What grade were you using?

 yep wet sanded 1200 grade. hope this helps. mine turned out ok.

Hi everyone, I'm doing a slight variation to this mod as I'm not using a Sharan Badge! I'm colour coding a black VW Golf one, I started doing it yesterday and got to the paint stage but there were a few cracks in the primer, so long story short I started again .

I wanted to find out if the lacquer was going to seal the rubber surround as when i started to wet the badge to take the primer off it just came peeling off easily, obviously I don't want this happening on the car! Or before lacquering it should I peel off the overspray and have a Black VW, with a colour coded background and black rubber surround?

Any opinions on how that would look

Looking good mate. You want to get rid of that Golf badge aswell to clean it up even more.

Thought I might do it same color as badge, gunmetal, but a bit undecided.

Double sided tape might not be strong enough

You can buy the sticky pad that holds it on from vw for about £1.50 -£2 just ask them for the foam sticker for the roundle badge (for the sharan in your case) i put my golf badge back on after colour coding it and making the vw bit black vinyl

Has anyone tried doing anything like this on a bora? I know its going to be different as the bora badge has a key hole in - but ive brought a black replacement badge (dont think its official as it doesnt come apart like the sharan badge). I was just wondering whats under the original badge, and if i remove it, can i replace it with the new badge easily enough?
