my car used to go into limp mode because the vanes were sticking and it was causing overboost, it certainly does not mean the turbo i nackered!  a quick fix is to undo the actuator and wiggle it about, but this is just temporary. i did it 3000[EDIT now 10000] miles ago and the problem has not re-occurred since

    see the pic below

or, if you have tried this and the problem re-occurs v. quickly you could try this interesting guide which i found on tdiclub.com. i intend to do this if the above quick fix stops working.

    heres the link

and heres how a VNT turbo should work, see the pic at the bottom. click

Id like to add to this too.

As well as the wiggle trick above I got a carton of this:-

    http://www.forteuk.co.uk/Diesel_fuel.htm

1 carton is supposed to be for 100litres of diesel.  I put the full carton into about 1/3 of a tankful.

Waited until the engine was fully warmed up then I revved the engine (at standstill) up to just over 4k and held it for 10-15 seconds.  I did this twice a day for about 3-4 days with the high concentration of forte in the tank.

A combination of the wiggle trick and the above seems to have cured my sticking turbo vanes.  Im well chuffed.

Hope this helps others with the same problem.

I can't see how Forte treatment would free a sticking turbo - I can see however that revving it would.

Hey Sean Jaymo - is that the 747 on the airfield on the way to Cirencester?
