    Hello,

As you can see this is my first post here but i have been looking around the forum for some time ,i am currently driving a Ford Focus TDCI and i have been thinking of getting a golf and what ever one i go for i would like to get a DSG gearbox, now i think i read some where on a website that there is going to be a new 1.4 TSI for the golf and that there is also a new DSG 7 speed gearbox coming out as well but i can't remember if they are both to be available together and as this forum would know more than i do about this i thought i would ask on here so you good people can put me strait so any information you guys can give me would be gratefully appreciated.

    thanks

    Tony

    Hey mate,

The car which is out at the moment is a 1.4 TSI 140bhp (GT Sport is the new one)

    http://vw.co.uk/new_cars/golf/engines#

You can get a TSI in that one?

I have just bought the GT SPORT TSI 170 and i am very pleased with it. Mines a 6 speed manual, you can get a DSG box in them but its 6 speed not 7.

I have only had mine since thursday and its great, if you thinking about buying one then go and test drive one, i think you will like it..

    Hi all

The VW media room post here suggests that there's going to be a new DSG gearbox to go with this engine.  The Audi A3 now seems to be available with the 1.4 TSI (125 PS) engine but there is no mention of a DSG variant on their website as yet.

Seems to me that VW buyers are being left to last, VAG have 2 new engines I'd be interested in in the Golf, ideally the 1.8 TSI (160PS) or, failing that, the 1.4 (125PS).  Seat get the 1.8 TSI for some of their models and Audi get both.  Golf buyers get neither at present.

I also remember reading that the 1.6 FSI engine was being replaced by a new engine based on the 1.4 TSI engine.

The new engine, however, was not being fitted with a supercharger but a sophisticated new turbo charger ( producing 120 bhp ) with a choice of manual or the new 7 speed DSG. ( which is lighter as it is using a pair of dry clutch plates apparently)

Production was due to start at the end of this year.

Yes, you're right they have dropped the supercharger off the 1.4 TSI and it is significantly more economical. There is a complete review in this months VW Driver magasine, well worth a look for all the details.

Why don't VW stop arsing around with these engines? First of all they introduce their TSI engines and say the supercharger in necessary for low speed ooomph until the turbocharger takes over and then goes back on this by introducing  a TSI engine WITHOUT the supercharger but with a more 'sophisticated' turbo - oh yes, I wonder how this will cope with the low speed associated lag etc, the very reason why the superchargers were fitted.

Frankly I don't really trust VW to produce anything for more than a few months before making alterations. The DSG gearbox is another example. First of all six speeds and wet clutches and now 7 speeds and dry clutches. I wonder if the latter will make for less smooth changes and more wear etc.

I had to wait 5 months for this car! Have now had it 7 months.

    Hi

I don't think that the 7 speed DSG is intended to replace the 6 speed.  The 6 speed will continue for the higher output engines and the 7 speed is intended for engines giving < 250 Newton metres torque (~185 lbs.ft).  The dry clutch system reduces the drag and improves economy.

I read somwhere that the new 7 G dsg only has somthing like 1.8 litres of oil in it compared to the 6 G dsg whitch has nearly 7 litres and a filter as well,But i too would not think dry clutches were a good idea as there is no oil to take the heat out of them and they could need replacing at some stage ,But the wet clutches should never need replacing only oil and filter changes.

Agri Tractors have had gearboxes like dsg for a long time were you can change through a set of gears under load and they use wet clutches i dont think they would ever use a dry clutch it does seen vw after coming up with the Dsg are just trying to make it cheaper but not possibly any better than the currant one.
