Can't remember for the life of me if they're available? Petrol cars have Millers Octane booster, is there an additive available for diesel engines?

If so, has anyone tried them? 

Do you mean additives which clean your fuel system? If so, redex do a diesel treatment..

Millers diesel power plus, DPP. But now they have diesel power 4, which adds 4 to the cetene.

I've used DPP and its good and in the long term cheaper than high performance diesel. I've not used diesel power 4 but I'm sure its of the same high standard.

millers power plus for diesel is very good indeed. rather than octane its cetane as prefered by oil burners.

i ues it often, better starts and quieter engine and some more poke due to cetane.

it also cleans injectors etc

millers cetane 4 is quite good.

one bottle treats 10 tanks and i have seen a de-crease in smokeyness and i ve treated the last 8 tanks in a row.

they were raving about in VW driver mag, was having a quick read when my car was in at the dealers getting broken

Good info fokls Might make this topic a sticky as a reference for others. Are there any other cetane rating boosting products available?

I see Halfords has quite a range, although some seem to be more expensive than others though

As for separate fuel treatment (ie redex kind) the guys on the dieselcar forum used to rave about comma's Diesel Magic. Also I can't remember the brand but I did see a fuel treatment for 'high pressure' diesel engines. Both were from Halfords. Never seen a Millers product in Halfords.

In the Golf I think it helped a little, but not noticed any difference in the Leon, mind you, its only done 5k

Try your local A1 motor stores, they tend to sell it.

Ive been using the power sport 4 and used about half the bottle not really seen any benefit,will use up the rest and if its not any better.Will save the cash.

Ive always used Redex's stuff.. it did wonders in the carb'd little citroen axgt i had, cleaned it out a treat it did and also did well with the engine treatment you could do, putting it into the spark plug chambers and letting it dissolve the gunk on top of ya pistons and valves.. sadly they stopped doing that type of redex and came out with carb cleaner which wasnt as good i didnt think as it wasnt as concetrated.. anyway... ive used the diesel treatment and noticed bit better MPG but nothing massive, nor anything else, but the fact that it is keeping the fuel lines clean warrants it i think.. I dont use it every tank as i was told that the ecu gets used to the increase of createne and throws a wobbler. altho lookin at it now.. i highly doubt it..    After i use this bottle of redex im deffo gonna try the millers stuff..  Halfords do stock the millers fuel additives as thats where i saw it. might not be the cheapest tho!!! As always with halfords!!!

i was talking to some mechanics and apparently its quite a good idea to fill a new fuel filter with an injector cleaner product, ideally a treatment that's about 250ml and says you should put it in one tankful, and then fit the filter. it might run a bit odd at first but once it's through it will have cleaned up the fuel system no end.

they said the trouble is that the treatments all get thinned out too much, but this way it gives them a bloody good dose.

i did this on my dads car for him as it's severely down on power, it's an Isuzu 3.0 TDI 159hp standard and apparently chipped to 200hp in 2002 but over the years just got slower and slower, it did indeed make a difference and now it runs smoother. put out tons of smoke when the cleaner was going through! got it RR'd before the treatment and it was 137hp so yeah we were right it has got slower. not been back but theres no question it's made a difference. thing is it's probably the first fuel sys clean in 60,000 miles so no wonder......

Sorry for bumping an oldish thread, just a quick update. My car's just finished it's second full tank treated with Millers at double the recommended dose. It says it's OK to do this on the label, and my car's probably never had it's fuel system cleaned out, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.

I rate this stuff it's great. My car is so much quieter and smoother now. It sounds and feels much more like a petrol. Less clattery, especially at idle. The throttle is also more responsive. It seems to rev and respond much more readily. 2 full tanks of fuel treated at (probably more than) double the recommended dose... half a bottle of the stuff left... 12 quid a bottle... bargain!

Ive been trying the Tesco diesel stuff as it seems to be spookly the same as STP stuff, same bottle and eveything, but 1/2 the price at £2.50 odd or its pretty cheap.

I thought Id give it a go as after 180k my cars not exactly new, and I thought i might get a few moe MPG but ill be honest i cant save ive noticed any differance, even after 4 bottles worth, and that included buying one bottle when i was not far off the red and dumping the full lot in! and I have new fuel filter (but i didnt have any at the time otherwise i would have fileld that with it too)

If I can find something that works and doesnt cost the earth Ill let you know, non of my local places seem to sell the magical millers stuff sadly.

Considering most VW diesel owners here have PD engines... I would say this additive is quite appropriate as it states it is safe to use with PD

 We don't really know what effect the other ones (millers/RedX etc) has on the injector unit.
 

I should have said, mine's a non-PD engine.

No kidding I've noticed a definite improvement though.

The car isn't any faster, and cold temps have meant I've really not noticed improved mpg, but without doubt it is smoother and quieter and more responsive.

In terms of less smoke, i havent seen any major differences with the redex then normal use of diesel.  MPG was up alittle.Got another 20miles or so out the tank which isnt bad, so maybe over the course of the treatment of tanks, the cost of the treatment is nothing and you clean your engines innerds out a treat   Hard to say hand on heart tho , as i only get to drive it at late at night or early morning and with the headlights behind me alittle smoke and alot of smoke looks very similar.

Deffo getting some tho just on the info from above and the feedback i have got from a lad at work with a Skoda Octavia which was very poorly, *turned out to be a MAF sensor* but he said the millers treatment made a massive difference to the engine and again he also saw MPG increases!

We have the same engine Rodger & I concur!  Though I found the response time from putting my foot down to actually moving was cut by a fraction - only noticed because I used to nearly stall on this one junction every day and now I don't!

my test wasn't even that scientific... I just noticed the tach needle winds round faster than it used to when I boot it!
