My 150PD struggles to get higher than high 30s. Temp sensor has been replaced by VW with green one and am looking at a new MAF sensor today or tomorrow. If no improvement, thinking it could be EGR full of muck, so removal and cleaning, or replacement with Allard pipe for boost gauge could be an option. How much do these cost and how easy to change, or clean EGR? Haven't looked for How to's yet.

Any suggestions for what could be keeping mpg low as my foot isn't particularly heavy. Cruised home at 75 today and up slight hills mpg was 34ish, averaged 37.5 or so, with less than 1/4 tank left.

I am getting 58 on a very steady 45 mile motorway run each day.

Cant believe how much fuel costs now, I saw 117 at a BP the other day, doesnt seem that long ago when it was less than £1 a litre. we are being taxed off the road

The lowest I've had on a journey is about 40 and that's flooring it everywhere, you do have a problem.  It's probably the MAF, have a look here for more info.

MPG depends alot on how you drive it remember,

if you boot is everywhere you'll get 40 ish

if you drive short trips all the time you'll get 40 ish

if your getting any less or driving really slow or long trips and still getting 40ish then there is a problem.

i sometimes go out on a short drive late at night, (eg into town to pick someone up) and with clear roads i'll get about 34mpg. i know theres nowt wrong its just because i'm goin fast, i know i can acheive 50mpg i do it most weeks on my long drive back to work, but here is the important part

MPG IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO SPEED

you can't expect to boot it everywhere and still get 50mpg that just don't happen.

now the weather is improving you really should be seeing the figures increase on short journeys.

Mine is an ATD with a AMD remap, i average 40-45 mpg most of the time,

Mine will do 450 miles to a tank, 500 if the mrs drives it but hey thats what you get for having a heavy right foot !

never had more than 500 miles to a tank - work about ten miles away from home and just follow the long line of cars to work every day,

EVERY day is a track day !!

AMD remap - Eibach lowering springs - Black badges - Caractere boot infill & roof spoiler - custom aerial - R32 rims - oem sat nav - ipod installed in the armrest - custom fabia rear wiper - GT TDI interior - loads of layers of wax !

    hi im driving a mk4 golf 1.9 tdi match pd100 which was 100bhp 240torque now re-maped to 130bhp 320torque + a gain of up 10% extra fuel by powertune

im getting 41 round town and 45 on the motorway aslong as i do 70-90mph in 5th at 2500rpms-3000rpms this is short journeys so guessing id probably get more

but i must say im getting this figure by running on 16''  montreal alloys tyre size 205/55/16

and before this i had some brand new 18'' rs8's alloys tyre size 225/35/18 and was losing alot as figures use to show 36 37 round town and 40.5 motorway

parkers book quotes 45mpg for my standard pd100 with 5 speed gearbox

55mpg for the gti tdi pd130/150 models as these are fitted with a 6 speed gearbox

they get this figure by running on standard stuff i.e the gti 15'' alloys with 195/75/15 tyres plus without mud flaps fitted. as fitting mudflaps and wide tyres theres road drag/grip to consider here.think about it 195 tyres all round then jumping to 225 tyres is going to change more than traction

p.s try reseting the trip computer as this might give a better reading as i find this helps

I struggle to get 30-35 mpg on my short trip to work, I don't floor it and its starting to worry me.

I got 55 once on a long trip but mostly on the motorway i only get 40-45 tops.

I have got 225 tyres on but im not sure i ever got that much mpg more before changing the wheels though.

I still have "used car warranty" with the dealers,   do you reckon they could have a quick check over ?

I found according to the average mpg for single trip the mpg varies a lot according to the type of journey and terrain e.g my journey to work is 15 miles, on the way there is hill climb of about 4 miles, then slow traffic for the last 2 miles, mpg for that part of the journey can be anything from 34 to 41 mpg.

The return journey can show an average of 45 to 51 mpg depending on traffic jams. At the top of the downhill bit which is just on the edge of town and 2 miles from work  my mpg usually shows as 28 mpg and by the end can show as high as 48 mpg.

A 2.0TDI DSG observation on the  matter - but does it apply to ALL VW's, I wonder?  I record computer figures and also calculate brim to brim fills. True consumption is 40 - 45 mpg on light commuting.  BUT computer will say 50 - 55 mpg - an error of about 25%.  Consistent over 18 months.  Yes, motorway cruise will be better and cold weather will be worse - 5 mpg either way is reasonable. Dealer is 'shocked' but does nothing; I suspect VW set them up that way to justify published figures.

My Bora (ASZ remapped to around 200bhp) gives me 48-52 average for the tank. I do a 58 miles commute, the mornings are normally clear but evenings often s-l-o-w. If I give it the beans on country roads Automobile I can get the average well under 40 but if I am a good boy I can see journey averages of 55+ Yes

I have a 54 mile mainly motorway journey to work. The trip computer normally shows 62.3-62.5 by the end of the journey.

Today was the first day that I didnt need lights or the heater fan and the trip showed 65.9, highest its ever read.

my remapped 130TDI (now 175) on a 35 mile run to work, I get 55 - 57mpg.  If I boot it abit then low 50s.  I tend not to take it over 80mph
