i know there has been numerous threads ref suspension, but i can't get the answer i'm after. question- is the gt the same ride height as gti, and if i purchase either H & R sports spring which claim to lower by 35mm or eibachs by 30mm, will this infact only lower the car by 15mm because its lower than other standard models? please advise.

(only had dub for couple of weeks after chopping in the st 225, love the mpg)

thanks, i take it you have not lowered it yet, still standard! as mine. i've seen loads of pic on the forum but want to remove that massive gap above the wheels.

just ordered set of sports line spring from eibach, they are specific for gt, gti claims to give drop of 20-25mm front and 20 mm rear. £120 thought that was cheap. live in staffs

There is a tool to insert at the back of the stub axle that you twist 90 degrees to remove the strut by unclamping it from the stub axle.  On the o/s you will need to remove the drive shaft from the hub aswell as the 3 ball joint nuts but on the n/s you should be able to get the strut out without removing the drive shaft. No pictures but hope this helps.

well its done and it looks great, just the right drop. the rears took 20mins each side and the fronts 1.5 hours once you have the bits needed. (its a must the splitter and 14 spline bit). from other forums i changed the hub nuts also £4.15 each from vw. the spliter was £9.98.

    in all cost

-springs £120 abp cheshire eibach sportsline

    -set of spile bits £11

    -sturt splitter £10

    -hub nuts £8.30

    -spring clamps £20

for a first time i'm well cuffed. pics to follow

Looks good, what is the ride like has it affected the comfort too much and do you know what the actual amount of drop is?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to be sure before I lower mine.  Cheers.

mortygttdi, i've noticed this too, some gt's are already lower 56-57 regs but the new ones 08 like mine are alot higher like us spec for some reason. like ok for the time being. however looking into coils and new rims.

Yeah to be honest your gt sport looked to sit very high before lowering.  Mine (sept 07) looks like your 'after' pic as standard.

does anyone know if the geometry of the car needs adjustments once it's been lowered. Only asking because on my last car (Scooby) I was told it needed the 4 wheel alignment if changing the springs..
