Ive been reading alot (mostly on US Forums) about this Mufflerectomy business and it seems quite appealing.
Basically you chop off the muffler and replace it with a straight stainless pipe and whatever tip/tips you fancy. There appears to be no real performance gains other than maybe the turbo would spool a little faster and more of a free air flow.
There are a few videos on youtube and to be honest i'm really liking the sound of them, i know its a bit strange to upgrade just for the sound but i'd really like a "non stock" more grunty sound and with the turbo whine too.
The problem being, I'm not too sure what a regular exhaust place would think if i walked in and asked them to chop off my muffler !
I went to Custom Chrome Racing today who are 3 mins down the road from work and the guy just said .." nah, if you take off the muffler then you'll be taking peoples windows out !" but he did offer to sell me a sports back box with oval tip etc..fitted for £185 - but i'd need to get a 4motion valance.
The main reason for going for the straight pipe thing is mostly cost and simplicity, does anyone here have this done and what were the costs involved? if it starts approaching the £100 mark then i'd be better going for the custom back box wouldn't I ?
any info and help would be much appreciated lads ... thanks !
