I'd like to retrofit Cruise Control to my MK5. I've sucessfully fitted it to my MK4 and feel confident as I've heard it's easier on the MK5.

On the MK4 there is some fiddly wiring to be done, but as I understand the MK5 just requires the replacement stalk.

The thing that's confusing me is that I have read different opinions on here about how options on the car affect the parts required.

Mine has DSG, Highline, Paddle shift and MFSW. Some say I need a new control unit, some say I dont.

    Any ideas.

p.s. if dsgwagen is reading this, are you going to be selling the stalk on ebay again soon? I hear you sent it out with instructions.

It depends which steering column module your car has, not all support CC.

Everyone I have come across with MFSW had not needed a new control unit so far.

If you have vagcom post the part number of yours and I will tell you for sure.

i have fitted this to my mkv, havin never done it before the two slight hold ups i came across was gettin the original stalk off as there was no guide in the instructions and the second was the wire you have to fit the pin broke off as soon as it went near the plug.

its not just the stalk, there is wire to be fitted which your have to take wipers off for and scuttle panel underneath to get to the block conector and feed this thru the bulkhead and to the plug on the back of the steering wheel control module

i have a 2004 gt tdi manual with midline and no mfsw and it had the correct steering wheel control module

as for getting the kit it is only £50 from vw and i see many people gainin on this by sellin upwards from this to £80 and if like me in trade i got it for £40

long i know but hope it helps, anymore just ask

OK here is going to be such a dumb question?

Is vag com a program you have installed on your computer?

I would love cruise control, I have a 56 plate UK spec GTI with a mid line computer.

any one know if it would be easy to fit for me?

     I've installed the stalk.

I've coded the correct parts in Engine and Steering.  (triple checked this)

    It doesn't work.

The cruise switch activates i.e. switches the light on the dash.   The set and resume buttons do nothing, I went out for a test drive and it won't hold the speed.

I've checked some measuring blocks in VAG COM and the buttons are registering correctly.

Any ideas anyone?  Do I have to fit this extra wire?

p.s. Removing the steering control module was a complete sod.

Do you have a note of the part number for this wire?  And where it goes?

My cruise kit only included the stalk.

     Wellsy,

Just to answer your query.  I still have the same problem but have just done without CC for now.  I have 3 steering control modules in my collection and got a bit fed up with it!  Will probably strip it off and return to standard before selling.

Some one else had the same issue on here (golfman?), but the dealer resolved the issue for them and they did not have VAG-COM to check the part numbers.

For interest I had an F suffix, got sold an AF on ebay when clearly described as AJ - neither the A/AF support MFSW.  Then I bought an AG which should work but doesn't :-(.

    Thanks for your reply.

I've given up, I'm going to return it to standard and get the dealer to do it.  (for a fixed price I hope)

This sounds painfully familiar to me.  Bought 2 cars last year, both DSG with paddles, wife's also had MFSW.  Had dealer fit cruise control done (£150 each).  Wife's worked a treat.

Mine (on a GTI) lit up but wouldn't work.  Six visits to the dealer later they got it going.  In the meantime they plugged it in to talk to Germany (twice), did wiring loom checks, swapped a load of parts from a showroom car and once they had found the secret, fitted a replacement steering control module.  I was on first name terms with the senior technician and we were talking CANBus and codes like old friends.

I might just have been unlucky, but I wouldn't contemplate doing one myself after that!

I inatlled the cruise control yesterday to my 04 2.0 tdi. It wasn't too bad a job. You really need a haynes manual along with the instructions.

I took a picture of the connector as I see someone said the pin broke while trying to insert it. The connectors used have a latch which holds the pin in place. This latch needs to be released to allow insertion or removal of pins.

The latch is the pink part. It needs to be pushed sideways a few mm's. Then the pin will insert no problem

Went to get cruise control fitted to Mark 5 Golf 140 TSI, loads of ads in dealership  saying 'Cruise control fitted to Mark 5 for £150'

When ask fthe service dept to book it in they say it will be £192.

I point them to the adverts and a print out from the VW web site and they point me to the small print that says at participating dealers.

They are not a participating dealer.

Phoned round another 6 dealers that are not too far from where I live and they qoute the same scenarion.

Are we being mis -led again ?

Sorry about dragging up a (semi)old thread.

I've got a kit for my mk5 2.0 diesel GT, and it's been supplied with a single grey cable. I've heard rumours that this is supposed to connect between the steering column module and the ECU, but I don't know which pins it goes to, and typically there is no user guide !!

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance ...
