anyone know if you can get the 'stainless steel' upper & lower parts in the UK - is there a VW part no. or is there an 'after-market supplier who does a good one?

I was hunting for these parts a while back with the assistance of Martyn at VAGparts, we both came to the conclusion in the end that they were discontinued after only a very short time in production due to the silver trim around the dash top vent reflecting in the windscreen. It was the standard finish for the Golf Match, look in the Golf catalogue, it’s still shown.

The VW part numbers listed for the 'Stainless Steel Accent Kit' (the Golf Match trim) are 1K0819728JV80 (air vents) & 1K0858069LV80 (heater control trim for climatronic).

I ordered these from VW and when they arrived they were a very dark metallic grey, only slightly lighter than the standard black trim, a nice finish, but not what I was after. I handed them back and VW parts were totally at a loss as to why they were referred to as 'Stainless Steel'.

I decided to get in touch with OEMPL.us in the US and they gave me a contact in Germany who supplies them with their parts. It turned out that Holgar their German contact had 3 different types of trim he could supply:

    - Simple black

    - Stainless steel

    - Grey (USA only)

I checked the part numbers with him for the 'Stainless Steel' trim he could supply and they were the same as the ones I ordered from VW, he couldn't confirm what the stainless steel trim looked like as he didn't have them in stock . Holgar also showed me pics of the Grey USA parts and they also looked exactly the same as the ones I ordered from VW. The plot thickened!

Martyn at VAGparts also drew a blank and gave the theory about the stainless steel parts being discontinued. I also spoke to Mike at VW Speed but he has never got back to me.

So, that is as far as I got and was not willing to order any parts from the US or Germany until I was certain they were the correct ones, delivery from the US was about £120!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

The only other option is to find an early Golf Match in the scrap yard and hope the trim is in good condition, or get the black trim sprayed at your local body shop.

thanks - you've done a pretty thorough job of hunting them down. Shame you can't get the silver, as it looks good, but if it did reflect badly in the windscreen maybe it's not such a good option after all.

Mine was painted rather shabbily by a previous owner, I want to replace it with a good quality silver one or given the hassles experienced by all, just go back to stock.

That looks quality, you have done a really good job with that, how easy was the job and how much did it cost you in £££'s [if you don't mind me asking] as the site is dollars?

    Could be tempted..

Try Fischer Motorsport website, A german based company however they stock many OEM discontinued items. I for example picked up the USB adapter from them as they have been discontinued in this country.

AidenUK, I take it youre not directing the question to me? Mine is pants, looks ok from that pic I'll grant you, however up close the paint job is shabby, its not been prepped properly before painting nor has it been sealed.  I want to rip it out and replace asap. either with a good quality stainless replacement or the stock black one.

^^^ I think from that picture it looks sound, but like you say if it's not been done to a decent standard then i can see why you want rid, if you could get everything silver again and in a OEM finish i think you should go for it, i do like that, the only thing i would possibly change is keeping the left and right air vents black but that's just me. Can EOS vents be fitted to a Golf? - as they have a stainless trim option along with a piano black which is nice too.

Scrap that, I've just looked and it's completely different.

...I am waiting with baited breath!

I have been keeping my eye on that thread, one of the part numbers is slightly different (wonder if the difference is between climatronic and standard AC controls) to the ones I have quoted above but the trim code 'V80' is the same. Will be very interesting to see what the dealer actually supplies.

    No golf clubs at all....

Did you ever get the OEM stainless dash trim from UK dealer?  On the thread on the other forum linked to above, it looks like you ordered them but they were on backorder (in August)....

    What was the end result?
