Hi just wondering if anyone has had any work done by the Derv Doctor http://www.dervdoctor.co.uk/.

They seem to be doing some great things with the VAG diesels on the brisskoda and tdi-club forums but I haven't heard there name mentioned on here.

Seems like they are the kind of tuners us derv drivers really need

    Joe

I have heard of them before, never a bad thing said, they were one of the first to do diesel dump valves, not that that is anything amazing.

Hmm i enquired about tuning my car, they said mine was basically a 130 and they could only get 170-180 out of it.

because according to derv doctor the 150PD gets it's extrta 20bhp from its front mounted intercooler......................

I was thinking about going down the hybrid turbo route.

They reckon if I exchange my turbo for hybrid vnt17, get a new re-map and FMIC I will get between 210-220bhp and about 340lb/ft of torque

oh and they reckon the car would be more reliable doing it this way as opposed to sticking a larger turbo with a modified manifold onto my engine

Yea I did think about jabba, very pricey though but i guess you get what you pay for!

I might get the turbo from derv doctor and then get jabba to do the work

Bingo - thats all it is.

Just spoke to them on the phone and the prices are as follows

    1. Hybrid (my own) turbo + fitting £740-
    2. Forge intercooler £880
    3. Custom remap to suit - £300

    Total = £1920

But to be honest I reckon I could just get most of the bits myself and then just get a mechanic to fit the turbo and then Chipped/AMD/Custom code to custom re-map it!

I'm hoping to get this done in october if I can save up the money

well if you were to get your turbo hybridised it costs about 400 from Turbo Dynamics, the price does vary on turbo condition but i seem to remmeber yours is fairly new so it would be 400ish.

as for the intercooler, bobseptic is getting some made up that are reasonably priced and alot easier to fit with in / out on the same side, all you'd need to fit is a few silicone bends and some jubilee clips i think it's been designed to use the std pipework. seem to remember the price being 180 ish delivered

and then for a custom re-map from allard/jabba/chippeduk/amd whoever you choose for 3-400

if you do all the work yourself that is under a grand!

Cheers I pm'd bob and spoke to TD who will get back to me.

Is it safe to run a hybridised turbo without a map to suit?

I seem to remember you (fenwick) ran a pd 150 turbo on your original remap without any problems

edit - just spoke to Turbo Dynamics it will cost between £475 - £495 + vat (£583.10) to hybridise my VNT17 turbo

i did run it like that for a few months but the boost was all over the place, on the motorway i had to be careful (watching the boost gauge) and gently re-apply the throttle to avoid generating 35psi spikes which i am sure are not good for the turbo!

wow, 583 seems alot, i'm sure when i enquired it was alot less. maybe its's just the inflation this country is sufferieng from with these bloody energy prices lol

One of the guys on the street sleepers forum ran a hybrid turbo (from derv doctors) for quite a while without a remap and amazingly it never caused any problems. He used the car as normal to, never bothered about too much boost etc (although would recomend steady driving myself).

As for the question regarding Derv Doc's, I went to school with Gav (back in the day lol), and he's a sound guy. They seem to do a good job, but no different than other companies. I always have, and always will use chipped uk personally, but each to their own.

Thanks alleyroo, I think i'll be making a trip up to chipped in the week, the flexibility of the ST3 unit is tempting.

I was put onto derv doctor by people on the briskoda site, derv doctor told me that I had to limit my boost to 1.6-1.8 bar to prolong the life of the turbo and associated parts.

1.6 to 1.8 bar? on what turbo, that is pushing it a bit for 130 turbo even!

good tuners don't need alot of boost to get power, mine only boosts at 24psi, with a small spike up to 26psi, have even tried more boost it did not make a diffenrence and just created 30psi spikes.

i had a genereic map on mine when it was standard by a company called angeltuning, with the boost it was running i'm surprised my turbo lasted! bear in mind it was only a VNT-15, i was getting 34psi spikes, and it would hold 30 sometimes, mostly it would hold 28-29 as it simply couldn't cope.

the car was quick, at 167hp and 300lbft on the standard turbo which is impressive, but at what cost!?

Thats on the my current stock turbo once it been hybridised

Does that sound off, I still have the notes from the phone conversation.

Derv doctor said to limit it via the remap to 1.6bar(23psi) and TD said to limit it to 1.8bar(26psi)

yeah that seems fine, for some reason i forgot you were going with a hybrid turbo!Tongue Tied

if TD say it's good for 1.8, can't see any reason why a tuner would not go to 1.8. i take it that is the sustained value?

    22psi = 1.51 bar

    23 psi = 1.58 bar

    24 psi = 1.65 bar

    25 psi = 1.72 bar

    26 psi = 1.79 bar

Not sure whether its the sustained value or not. This is all pretty new to me still learning a bit more as each day goes on, but I prefer getting involved then just handing over some money to a tuner and saying "make it go quicker"

Anyway i'm thinking about going for chipped uk to tune it as they have the ST3 which seems like a mega flexible machine
