As i'm getting a DSG R32!Somebody came to collect some alloy's from me yesterday and then wanted to buy my car off me,was a little stunned as I had put a lot of work into it and had it looking just as I wanted,but i've alway's wanted a R32 so have accepted his offer(it was too good to miss!)and have been looking at quite a few R32's,it has to be Grey  5 door and have DSG,anybody have one for sale?Wondering if I have done the right thing as it's a buyer's market at the moment plus I only to a round trip of 10 mile's to work and back and under 5000 mile's a year,any comment's would be very helpful.

I think R32's look fantastic in grey, hence why I bought one :)

Good call! You won't regret it and you'll be quids in on the difference between the 2 cars (should pay for fuel for a while). Good luck in the hunt!

Oh yeah, the R32 is a thirsty beast.  I'm averaging about 25mpg out of mine but what's the pint of having a V6 with a Milltek exhaust and not hearing it?

The Ed30 is a different beast.  Front wheel drive, 4 pot with a turbo.  So if remapping is your thing you'll see 300bhp or so easily out of an Ed30.  However, I absolutely loathe the interior in the Ed30 so there was no way I could buy one.

Drive an Ed30 and see what you think.

 i sold my r32 for an ED30 and do not regret it all its one of the best cars i have had and now its mapped . the interior is so nice its perfect for the GTI ed30. jct in bradford have a black demo car i think, the r32 is a very very good car but try and test them both back to back if you can.

Phew, for a minute i thought something bad had happend to it!! Well at least you won't have to convert the rear to an R32 one like you was planning mate, make sure you get some photos up of the .:R when you get it!

 Oh sorry Aiden for getting you worried as the title is a little misleading,I don't know why but I still feel as though I don't want to part with it as it's served me so well but hey money talk's,the deal's around 95% done but if it fall's through for any reason my GTTDI will get it's R32 conversion so I can't lose.I'll drive both the ED30 and R32 before making my mind up but i've alway's wanted the R32,we'll see!

I have not driven an .:R or a Edition 30 but if it was me i would go for an 30 for them simple reason that the road tax won't be a expensive and you can tune the nuts off them. I know people say you can't beat the sound of a V6 and thats true you can't but think about all those trips to the petrol station, i know the 30 will drink fuel but i am sure if you drive it Steady Eddie it would return 29-30mpg? I think an .:R would be around 26-28mpg? Also think about the future when trying to sell, a 2.0 TFSI will be easier to shift than a gas guzzling .:R 3.2 V6 and if our government get their own way anything over a shopping trolley will be taxable.

What every you get though you'll be happy!!

If you're only doing 5k p/a - then fuel really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.

If you've got a good price for yours then i think you're in a very good position to get a bargain on a high spec R32, which is more likely than getting one on an ED30. You'll get a lot of car for your money and you'll have let someone else take the big hit on depreciation.

The way things are going, I bet you could lease a new one cheaper than a diesel GT Sport..

It's not just fuel that's the issue running an R32 in the near future. What's the point of spending all that money to have a performance car sitting on your drive?

Sanjit - it's a buyers market for a reason. Just because an R32 may seem like better value for money right now doesn't mean to say the car will hold on to it's value. Guess you'll have already done your sums but the cost of this car per mile will be astronomical compared to what your current car would have cost over the next two or three years.

You had the neatest ICE install on this forum. Did you replace the original RCD300 when you sold it?  

I'd assumed he'd taken the rest into account - everyone knows they're not cheap to own/tax/insure.. but the fuel costs doing that mileage are the least of his worries.

Ownership costs are down to the individual, from the person doing it on a shoestring to the other with a £30k trailer queen that just rolls out for shows. What makes sense to one person may seem mad to another... he should just buy what he wants and do what he wants with it, hopefully advice from here will ensure he gets a good deal.

At 5,000 miles annually - only around 15 to 18 trips, so not much more than once every three weeks!

Missed that comment about the mileage Mark V. It would still be the 30th Edition Anniversary for me though.

I got your point, but what might not make sense to you and I may not bother him?... people always have and always will buy nice cars and hardly use them.

I'd also be willing to wager everyone who's bought a Veyron does have it parked up and it's only driven once in a blue moon.

 Hey lad's all comment's are welcome and I am very happy about the comment's and view's recieved so far,I have'nt let the car go just yet as the chap is trying to shift his Saab 93 to buy mine but it's a done deal,left all the I.CE and everything in the car as I don't get tight on ripping stuff out so he has everything as I had left it,rear valance mod,exhaust,etc!Might just go and have a play with a grey edition30 i've seen with 8 mile's on the clock coming in at £20k but must make sure this is not an import,the only bit of funny stuff is my R32 rear bumper and stuff has arrived at my local VW dealer and they have told me it's ready to collect!Price of fuel etc does'nt bother me as I do so little milage,not quite made up my mind just yet but have a test drive of both the Edition30 and a R32 DSG ata my local dealer booked in Saturday,it seem's there's a little bit of worrying news regarding the DSG and it's problem's so may go for a manual gear selection,keep the comment's coming lad's.

A delivery miles ED30 at £20k does sound like an import but brokers were selling UK sourced cars for around £20500 if I remember correctly. Surprisingly brokers aren't knocking off anything worthwhile from the Pirelli right now - I'm sure that has to change soon.

Or for that money, you could be one of the first owners of the new Scirocco?  (for placing deposits on new cars see Tony Danza...   ha ha).

By the way Tony I saw my first BMW 1 series coupe on the road the other day. It was actually worse looking than I thought from those pre-launch pics. If BMW had gone ahead with the model you were after would you still have ordered it ?  

 Although an ED30 makes 'more sense' if such a thing can be levied at a car of that ilk, if I was in your position I think I would be well tempted to go for the R32 myself too.

Okay it's going to be expensive to buy/insure/run and maybe difficult to sell on but it's about the only Golf I can think of that is just about right straight out of the box and being as it's so expensive to tune you are less likely to throw money at it apart from some nicer wheels.

I have bought quite a few cars and sworn I'd not modify them only to do just that as it's so easy to do with a VW/SEAT turbo car.

I think an R32 is one car I would definately not modify and thus would make quite a large saving on that alone as I hate to think how many re-maps and suspension upgrades I've bought which at the end of the day are dead money. And lots of it.

And as for fuel consumption, I don't think an R would be that much worse than a GTI as I've never seen an average tankful anywhere near 30mpg and I'm not exactly an aspiring F1 driver even though I don't granny it either.

Try 'em both, then try 'em again I say. Tough call.

There's still plenty of new ED30s about, seemingly a lot of dealers have ordered a boat load of them no doubt with an incentive from VW UK to sell as many as possible to buoy up figures now they've fobbed off the "1500 limited run" complaints with a numbered plaque. I'd say there will be closer to 3000 of them + imports which isn't brilliant for used prices. They'll shift them on at a discount before the Pirelli arrives. Now, they're a brilliant car but I think the marketing was naughty and it's worth waiting a while to see what the true knock on effect of this on prices will be, they're still artificially high IMO. I think everyone was expecting Anni style residuals, but there were too many cars and variations in doors/colour/spec.

There's a place in Derby/Leicester www.myvolkswagen.co.uk that has a load with around 10% already off... there's bound to be more movement on those too. There's also the benefit of being another thorn in Mr Crabster's side

'Roccos are pretty much all sold out until April, you'd be very lucky to find a dealer with allocation left for Autumn - that ship sailed a couple of months ago. My local ones had the order books filling up the day after Geneva. I fluttered around ordering, but I think it is better long term to allow the MKVI arrive and more 'Rocco versions to allow some movement on price.

BMW - looks are obviously subjective, but I much preferred the tii styling to the SE/M you'll have seen. If they'd have made the limited version I wanted, then I'd have ordered on the spot. Speculating with deposits is fine as long as it is on the understanding it is refundable (in writing). I just walked in and got my money back.

MKV GTIs are the bargain to buy at the minute, due to end of life and the ED30/Pirelli. You can have a virtually new, very well specced car for very little money.
