HIya guys, just got myself a 1.9 TDi 130 on a 02 plate and am thinking about getting it chipped/remapped in the near future.

Whats the power gains i'll be looking at? And is there a limit to how much torque and power i can have before having to change things?

Also if you guys had any reccomendations on what companies are good that'd be appriciated

I had my Ibiza done by chippeduk, same engine as your golf, and definately recommend them. You will get about 170/175 bhp and around 410 Nm. When I got it remapped I was told that the clutch would be fine, but after driving it from Marseille the flywheel had broken and contaminated the clutch (£700 to replace them). I'm not sure if it was the extra power that caused it but I suspect it was. You should definitely look at getting an uprated clutch if your thinking about a remap.

Other companies which are meant to be good are Revo, AMD, Jabbasport etc

Cheers guys,iv read good things about chippeduk on this forum. Bit off put by the possability of the clutch going i'll have to admit. Will have to look into uprated clutches like you said m8

just remember that having a remap is NOT all about getting the max power you can. Maps can be made that are not quite as powerful in the torque range and so will not do your clutch in so quick. Just remember that if having a remap performed on your car have all other mods that you want done BEFORE the remap. Otherwise you will have to pay out for another remap to take into account your mods. Normally you can get away with just an exhaust and filter on a standard remap, but if you go for an exhaust that has high flow cats then you need a map which takes this into account and so on. Too many people do not realise this, and take it out on us poor tuners.

Yeah, ive heard about that before, but tbh i dont think i'll be wanting to put exhuast system on and that. Only really want a remap for that extra torque for over taking and having the odd bit of fun...nothing planned yet tho, just learning atm

Also, now that you can go faster have a good think about brakes and suspension!!  Going faster usually means stopping quicker as well.

Some tuners who are not well informed tell you one thing and when you have a problem then back pedal once they have correct info regarding things like how   exhaust systems and sports cats can change the programme they installed on your car.

I agree completely but in fairness, you can only tune a car that is in front of you, changing cats for free flowing units will require different mapping, there really is no way round this.

     Hi Guys,

Was wondering what is the true transmission loss for VW Golf V GT 1.4 TSI (170PS) with DSG box.   Just did a Dyno and had the figures at the wheels and wanted to convert to engine figures.    10q
