Sorry guys I have yet another question about some alloys I'm looking towards, just wondering does anyone have pics of a Golf V with some 17 Inch RS4's preferably without being lowered? I really need to see what they would look like.

Also any recommendations for places to pick up a good set around the UK would be much appreiated!

Cheers mate, I'm actually after the new RS4 style alloys, I can see they have them on that link though. I'm looking at 17's just becuase of ride height, ride quality etc...

I'd rather avoid ebay if I can, as I haven't had much luck with sellers recently!

Just need to see some cars with them on before taking the plunge...

Do you guys reckon I'm going to experience problems with scraping the arches when going over bumps on 17's, a mate of mine said that I would, even if I have stock suspension.

Secondly, even though I'm not lookin to go for 18's, will the 17's still fill the arch a little better than the 15 inch alloys I currently have?

Unless you get some silly alloys with a mad off-set then no.  You're mate is talking oot his arse.  You can go from 15" - 19" without any rubbing issues so long as you stick to the right width of tyre and off-set of alloys, and ride height.

R32 runs 225-45/18" as standard and no issues and its lowered 20mm (?) over normal.  I would recommend 18" and a 35mm drop on the new RS4 style alloys tho, they are quite 'open' and so 17" will look tiny with the gaps between spokes and amount of tyre.

I have 225-45-17 (ClassiX) and it would take a lot for me to rub on the arches (I'm on standard suspension).

Oh, post a link to a high res image of your car (1024*768 min) and I'll photoshop some RS4 alloys onto your car.  I use my wheels as a template so I get the 17" sizing right.

Make the pic almost side on.

Cheers SixDegrees, I don't really want the hassle of lowering my car (and to be honest can't really afford it any time soon!) so if I got 18" wont the car sit too high and be 'tractor' like on the stock TDI suspension?

I reckon my mate was talking about when the car is fully loaded with passengers and luggage he's saying it would rub with 17", is he still chatting out of his arse?

Sorry about quick snap, somebody was tryna walk past so I snapped one quick on my phone hence the not so good aligned photo LOL.

Aye, your mate is still uttering pish!!!  As yours isn't a Sport version (assumption) then yes it might look a bit raised with 18" but this is more an optical-illusion as the overall diameter of 15" with right size tyres and 17" or 18" will only be a few mm different.

    Now, working back from my 225/45 R17", I orginally had 205/55 R16" 2005 GT TDi 4Mos came with 16") and if I had 15" I would've had 195/65 R15" tyres.

So, if you have 15" I'm going to assume it may very well be 195/65 R15".  Therefore...

205/55 R16" - 2.6mm smaller in diameter on new tyres, and

    225/45 R17" - 0.2mm (yes, 0.2mm) smaller in diameter on new tyres.

225/40 R18" - 2.7mm larger in diameter on new tyres

Given that tyres operate between 8mm and 1.6mm of tread , ie 6.2mm or 12.4mm overall diameter in difference from new and legal limit, then 225/45 R17" will be nigh on exactly the same apart from width as what you have just now in terms or ride height / stance, its the fact that there is more gap in the alloys and less tyre between the alloy and wheel arch that gives the impression its riding high, the fact is the tyres are the same height.

Thanks so much for all your input guys,

Bud, that pic helps a lot, It doesn't look too high even on 18's on your car. Where did you get your reps from, how are you finding the ride quality and performance, as mine's also a 105ps, does it effect the speed and handling, going over bumps etc...?

SixDegrees, my car is a 1.9TDI SE I think the 'SE' part stands for special edition not sure, or is it sport? Does that maker it lower than other Golf's or are all TDI's the same regardless of the SE bit?

^^^ SE; Special Equipment I believe, but it means it won't have Sport suspension but the difference is only 15mm I think.  So yours will be tad softer and higher than a Sport.

Not an issue though as you can still run alloys up to 19" without issues, prob 20" so long as they're not too wide and they have the right off-set (ET).

For 17" VAG run 7" - 7.5" wide and even at 8" wide you won't have any issues with the correct off-set.,

Issues occur when you start to lower cars like 60mm-100mm and run wide alloys and wider tyres, but seeing as you simply want something a bit bigger and nicer looking then 17" should cause you no probs what-so-ever!

I got my reps from Autosport in Bolton (every set of alloys I've ever owned has been from there), I honestly cant knock them in the slightest.... Plus, I managed to wing free upgraded tyres. £550.

As for ride quality, its fine, Its not too harsh at all, and going over bumps... well, like any bigger alloys yes you feel it more, but its not too bad in the slightest - put it this way I still have a set of teeth LOL...

I was considering 19's but i darnt, 18's have been spot on so far.
