Lots of posts on here about these sexy rear lenses but does anyone know which are the ones to buy and where to buy them.  A few threads say that the R32's are illegal due to lack of reflectors - is this correct?  Also are they easy to fit?

If you fit R32/ED30 tailights without additional reflectors, then yes effectively they are illegal and would fail MOT.  You'll notice R32 golfs have little red reflectors mounted down on the bumper, so if you could do something similar to this then they'd be fine.

As for buying them - try VAG parts

not actually true - the dark R32 lenses are exactly the same with built in reflectors and are fine - I think its the LED ones that need reflectors.

Yes the R32 has reflectors on the bumbers but I dont think the Ed30 does (Does it??) I have them on my MK5 GT TDI and they are fine and if you see them in the dark they have the same reflectors in them. TBH go to VW and get a set I think they are about £160 plus VAT or VAGPARTS

The R32 rear light's have reflector's 100%,here's mine with the original light's on top of the car and thr R32 one's fitted, you can clearly see the reflector's on both the original and R32 one's.Picture was taken in the garage with the flash on to simulate headlight's from behind.

^^ Cool.  That clarifys things a bit.  I was basing my post on info from VAG parts website which says -

"The R32 rear lights do not have reflectors in them so to remain legal red rear reflectors must be fitted. We include a pair of R32 rear reflectors in the kit."
