My old TDI 140 did this too. Only when the engine was hot though. I took it back to VW several times and they messed about with several things but it always came back.

Sometimes my current GTI does it too. So I've decided to just live with it.Indifferent

My TSI 170 does it also, but mine can get pretty bad with it. The car is going in on monday for a repaint job on the front valance because i assured the paint wouldn't come off when i was on about having it sprayed by VW -  it's started to flake off inside the arch. It's in for the juddering issue and a clank from the back left calliper.

Is it me or does the MK V have just as many little faults as the MK 4 did?

even after all these years i think VW needs to go back to basics  and try to refine the cars rather than  scrape around the depths of the world for budget parts to build these dam things and then want top dollar for them!!!

I'd say it has more, Andy. Aiden, is the "clank" you get when you brake whilst reversing ?

I have suggested this to VW (i think you have told me this before) but they say no it's fine blah blah blah and it's sods law that when i take it in, it doesn't do it.. Is this something i can tackle myself by whipping the wheel off? It's the rear left that does it..

    Thanks. Yes

Try bending the "anti-rattle" shims - you shouldn't really have to do this if it's under warranty - tell them to change them

I will ask them, trouble is with VW is it doesn't show up on their bloody floppy disk then they are not interested? Mechanics aren't mechanics anymore they are 'techies' which wees me off, it's very rare you actually see them with tools in their hands!!

    Thanks for the advice!

    Yes

That is why they are called "fitters" these days as that is all they do

FIT THING not repair, brainstorm problems with possible trial and error situations.

If elsawin or auto data does not have the answer and even a guide how to change a headlamp bulb then you be stuffed.

REALLY sad as a "mechanic" is hard to come by these days
