I have searching for a Golf for a month or two now and have yet to find the perfect one.

Due to the fact I know very little about buying cars I'm taking advice from my girlfriends Dad as he is quite a bit more clued up.

He mentioned that I should avoid travelling too far to buy from a garage because if anything goes wrong it'll be hassle to go all the way back to the place.

But I have found this on Autotrader

    Clicky

And I think its really nice, do you guys think there is a reason for it being so cheap? Or is it just a bargaini waiting to be had?

    Cheers in advance

    Mike

Just a little bump. Any thoughts anyone?

Only because it is 200 miles from me am I asking questions, if it was closer I would have test driven it by now and probably purchased.

I just wanted to check what you all thought.

    Cheers Smile

I think it looks awesome mate, seems a steal at that price. I travelled 330 miles to get mine and loved it, would defo get it hpi'd before you go/ find out as much as you can from the seller about the car too, good luck with it and have fun on your road trip if you do go!

Possible been in a crash. If you look at this image, the wing looks a slightly different colour and also the gap between the panel gets wider as it goes up....

Doesn't look bad to me for the money, mate.

As has already been said, get HPi check done before you travel (when I did this on my car, it revealed 2 plate changes that the seller hadn't mentioned initially).  I'd say it is probably worth asking directly if the seller knows of any previous accidents or paintwork repairs - I'm sure he'll deny anything, but if you state you really are looking for a minter, then he might own up if it has, realising he might not make the sale anyway...

Also noticed it doesn't have Recaros, but otherwise, it looks pretty clean from the pics...

    Wigster.

Sorry to keep bothering you guys, I'm sure you've all seen one too many newbie questions lol.

But...I'm on RAC and i've entered the Reg number it then asks for the VIN/chassis number, current mileage and V5 Reg stuff, i'm assuming the only way to get this information is to ring the place up and ask for it?

If so I will have to do that after work because I doubt my boss would appreciate that too much lol

    Cheers

p.s. MVP, Waheeey for Maidstone, might see you around some time, I'm in Chatham.

I'd be a bit concerned about the legality of the front tints as well TBH. Front windows shouldnt be tinted, although some people never have any problems with them

     Hi Mate,

You can get a mini check for about 5 quid, I used https://www.mycarcheck.com/

Gave me all the key info, i.e. if it had been written off etc

Looks a good price even if its had a dink, You can't expect FSH for that price.

Most older 3 door cars look like that as the doors hindge sags over time, I do agree the wing seems a slightly different shade.

Just noticed it's Keighley cars. If they do Jap Imports then I've been to that dealership, had a long journey too from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Was looking at getting an Integra Type R n they had ITR, CTR, Skylines etc so thought, I'll pop down and get to look at a few n maybe test one, just to see what they are about and if I could live with one day in day out. I was not impressed with their stock. Had cars sitting with huge chunks missing from bodywork for sale for roughly the full retail price. Not polished, all scratched, flat tyres and huge cobwebs everywhere, heavy rust on brakes and the salespeople there weren't in the least interested I was wandering around. And the cars were all locked. Not approached once to ask if I wanted help or if there was anything I was interested in. In fact, they just gathered in a group and had a chat among themselves!!!!

One car, a GTi-R had a tax disc for 4 years earlier displayed!!!!!!!! Some had up to date discs on show so I got the impression it had been there that long.Sad Looked totally unloved and abandoned. Walked away in disgust and vowed NEVER to go there again.

Though having said that, the Golf does look clean n cared for. Like I say, that dealership did JDM's so could be a different place altogether.

Ok just did a check, only cost £3 or something.

It came back with, 4 previous owners and "Plate Transfer. This registration has been involved in a plate change, please call 0870 118 1630 if further investigation is required"

Also due to what jcc has said, do you think I should steer clear?

After reading the comment above, I realised who is selling the car.... wouldn't touch this lot with a barge pole.

    Stay clear.
