    Hello all,

I'm changing my rear discs & pads at the weekend, and due to proximity to home I'm going to use Eurocarparts. Can anyone recommend preferences, i'm thinking ATE at the mo - are they worth they few quid extra? I'm also considering greenstuff pads - are they noisy? How much better are they? Automobile

The brands ECP have in stock are :

    Pads (ex VAT)

    Eicher - £11.65

    ATE - £18.60

    EBC greenstuff - £28.03

    Discs (ex VAT)

    Eicher - £14.20

    ATE - £18.40

I've invested in a wind-back tool http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-33606-Caliper-Wind-Back/dp/B0001K9SSO i'm told it's the right one, anyone used this one?

    Cheers :)

I've seen and heard a fair few people comment that the EBC stuff isn't that good, particularly the greenstuffs.  If it's for the rear, I would (and have) gone for bog standard replacement pad as they don't do an awful lot of braking anyway.  Have you got uprated pads on the front at all? If not, then I definitely wouldn't go for an uprated pad on the back.

On the discs, I couldn't really say - I just use the OEM equivalent discs from my local branch of partco and they do the job just fine.

If you skip past the bit on different calipers in this thread there's some useful information there.

    Jon.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology....... Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

ATE is a good quality german brand

as for EBC green stuff, don't recommend them on rear unless you have them on the front as well as it will create brake imbalance as they are gripper than OEM pads

Thanks guys, I thought the ATE ones looked good.

One more question, the pads will probably come with the sticky tape on one side, does this mean you don't need copper grease anymore? Or should i not peel off the backing and grease em up anyway?

I normally just leave the sticky tape on as I think it prevents squeaky brakes and put a thin layer of copper grease as well

Thought I'd tidy up this post - I changed my ATE discs / pads at the weekend.

The tool I bought was fine but due to the pads being so worn there wasn't enough space between the piston and the other side of the caliper to fit the tool in. I had to apply some brute force an push the piston in with the tool manally (not easy because it needs to be turned as well) until I had enough space to get the tool in and use the clamp properly.

This may help people who are scratching their heads because the tool won't fit - it's because you let your pads & discs run too low!! Embarrassed

By the way there was no sticky tape on the back of my pads, just copper greased 'em up :)
