Does anyone know when the MK 6 golf is due to be on the market?

And how would feel driving around in the MK 5 knowing its out of date shape once the MK 6 is here?

Expected release date to the public is around october with orders shortly after for probable. Not sure on when first deliveries would be. Expect the GTI 6-12 months later.

Wont bother me too much as from what I've seen the MK6 will only be a minor update and most of the mecahnicals are staying the same so it's unlikely we'll see much improvement in the performance/handling compared to the change from the MK4>MK5.

Hopefully they'll sort out the build quality as the MK5 really isn't as well put together or as nicely trimmed as it could be. If they can combine the handling with the MK5 with the build/interior of the MK4 they'll be onto a real winner though!

The only thing that's puzzling me is how VW expect to sell any 3-door Golf's when you can buy a similarly spec'd Scirocco for the same price!

The MK6 will probably handle worse - their breif is to reduce build costs on this one - so dont expect any big leap forward in quality. Gone is the independant rear suspension - maybe back on the Mk6 GTI - maybe this will get the trick suspension from the Scirocco. Ive had a Mk4 4Mo and have a Mk5 GT Tdi now and I think the MK5 is better - maybe the earlier ones were a bit cheaply trimmed?

The early Mk5's are actually better specc'd than the later ones as VW started to cut things out in an effort to save cash.

I read the independant suspension is staying since the development costs were incurred with the MK5 and the MK6 will essentially be a new body on 90% the same chassis. The glass box is staying too.

They wont have two different suspension setups for the normal Mk6 and the GTI, the costs would be prohibitive.

I'd heard the suspension was no longer going to be independent.  The plastics inside the mkV are shoddy, too brittle and creak too much.  I wouldn't expect the mkVI to be a huge step up in quality as the VAG will not want to jeopardise sales of the A3.

It is about time that VW gave a few more freebies away though, instead of ripping consumers off with things like centre arm rests and cruise.

Why wouldnt they have different suspension for the GTi? - I'll have a small bet the independant rear suspension will be dropped on the lower model MK6. And the GTi later in 2009/2010 will get the fancy Scirocco suspension.

I still cant find these shoddy plastics on mine - is there a particular bit I should be looking at, as mines solid as a rock and lovely? I dont have the flappy flap on the top of the dash - thats a speaker on mine - is this the offending item?

I could imagine they would have different damper and spring rates rates etc but in terms of an entirely different structure Im sure the cost would be too prohibitive not to mention the time it would take to switch SKU's on the production line. GTI assembly would have to run different to regular models.
