     hi all,

i have a 1999 gt tdi 110, and my drivers side door saggs slightly its hannging about 2-5 mm to low this is cause the door to be difficult to shut.i was wondering if anybody else had this problem and how they fixed it or if any one knows how to raise the door up slightly

ive looked in the haynes manual and theres a bolt that i think if you can undo it you cand slightly adjust the door but its got a strange head on it its like a star many many more points than a torx or any type of security bits ive got are these special vw tool that only the dealers got, any one know anywhere i could get these tools not too expensivly?

its a multispline bit you need, cant remember the size. Yes you can temporarily undo the bolts and adjust the door at the bottom hinge but it will sag again after a few weeks. I had mine factory fit and after a month it had sagged again (not as bad as before but not a perfect shut) You need new hinges. You will need a mate to help you get the shut lines right or you will be fannying about for ages on your own. When you take a closer look at the hinge and hinge pin you will see the wear. The pin hole will be elongated leaving slack here, hence your sag. Oh and btw, the bolts are made from sh** and will more than likely ring even with the correct multispline bit as they are on tight as hell! at least a couple of mine where! Very common and very stupid fault.

    or,

you could open the door just a tad, and put a trolley jack below it and lift it up a bit. i did this a few months ago and it sorted my problem, although mine was only dropped 1-2mm ish.

^^^^^^^^^^ thats the way i've done it on renaults and pugs. open the door, grab it by the underside and lift. Close the door to see if it shifted it up any.

snap on make a tool specifically for it, it locks into the latch inside the car and the door latch and then it has a 3foot handle and you just pull up et voila!

thats a rash and temporary fix, the metal has worn, stretched and fatiqued (sp) in the hinge and pin. trust me, you need hinges. im a mechanic i know what im talking about.

the multispline bits come in a socket set, mine are snap on but any cheap brand will do. i.e draper, kamasa, rolson etc.. i cant remember how much the two hinges cost mate it was done as soon as i bought my car and didnt keep a receipt. possibly rear 5 door hinges will fit, they look the same but the dimensions would need to be checked. try ebay you should get them there mate, dont buy them main dealer if you dont want to be ripped off
