     i've two insurance policy's ,

1st is for my golf as me as sole driver fully comp

2nd is for me and a named driver (my girlfriend) and is the car she drives , insured 3rd party through another insurer alltogether.

the 2nd car has been crashed (by my girlfriend) and i've scrapped it , the other vehicle in the accident is making a claim for damage ,we wont be replacing the 2nd car for some time now.

    the question is ....

do i have to inform my 1st car insurer? as it wasnt me driving when the 2nd car had a accident.

and will it bump up my insurance?

    hope this makes sence.

    thanks

I would think you would have to declare it.  Insurance companies do ask if you have any accidents, claims or convictions against you, and since it's YOUR policy, regardless of who was driving, the claim is against you.

Best is to check with your insurance company and explain the situation as failing to do so will only cause problems.

As you highlighted you are the named driver on both policies and an accident occured with one of the insured cars. Though you weren't the driver, it appears your girlfriend was in fact at fault as the other driver is claiming damages - and as you are the person on the policy, this claim has an impact on your claims history.

This implies I expect your premium to go up as a consequence of your girlfriends' accident. Consider this logic, you have 2 cars with 2 policies and you've (well, the gf) crashed one of them do you really expect the remaining policy to assume you have no history of claims?

As per title - declare it.

because both policies are in your name, and the way i read it was you gf was a named driver on one of thos policies, technicaly the fault lies with you.

if your gf was the policy holder on her car and you were a named driver on that, then i would say you dont have to declare it.

id be carefull about phoning up the insurers, make sure you dont give them details for them to know its you otherwise they might just add it on

    LOL... sober now.

If a policy is in your name, and there are named drivers on it. The NCD primarily goes to the policyholder, which in this instance is you. Obviously some insurers offer a mirror of NCD for named drivers that's irrelevant here.

So if a named driver has a bump it immediately affects your no claims. As ajb100 said, if you are a named driver, and the policy holder has a bump you wouldn't have to declare it, but it should be declared if you are policyholder.

I think people are reading far too much into this and have complicated the situation. Why call the first insurer? You only call the insurer if you or anyone on your policy has had an accident. But you didn't have an accident, it was your girlfriend that had the accident, and as your girlfriend had nothing to do with your 1st insurer. It pretty simple logic TBH.

BUT...   by contacting the first insurer, haven't you opened a bag of worms for yourself? Dan555 says it can never come back to haunt you. Well perhaps it could. (I can't believe nobody has picked this up already)

You have two cars insured in your name. The 2nd car however also has your gf as a named driver. It's pretty obvious is it not that your girlfriend is the the main driver of the 2nd vehicle? On that 2nd insurance policy you should be down as the named driver, not her.

If I've read this correctly, I hope the two insurance companies don't talk to each other. The only reason I can think of for someone to insure a car as a named driver rather than the main driver is to reduce their insurance premium. Is that the reason you had her on as a named driver? Hopefully your 2nd insurer won't pick that up.  Crying
