Couldn't believe it this morning folks,

Got up, nice sunny morning to a letter from the bank instantly i recognized the envelope shape from my student years as a "you-owe-us money-and we've taken it so there" the thinness of one bit of paper, it surely had to be an overdraft charge  notification. how  come, i've been a really  good boy?

A quick smoke and a gander yielded that I had indeed gone overdrawn! But my overdraft limit was wrong- none of it made any sense, they cant suddenly change your overdraft; can they? Well, yes they can actually if they are complete morons.

I've been a customer at this bank for over twenty years and i know my account, so I called their helpline pronto and explained, they checked and on june 2008 my overdraft was changed without my permission. The girl on the other end was pretty disgruntled at their incompetence too so charged the complaints dept £20 for inconvenience £5 phone bill, and amended my account.

So how did it happen? You know when you get your banks' insurance keep you on the blower at the end of a call (I normally hang up) asking you if you would like to take out extra household gadgets insurance and cancel your insurance set up for instance when your mobile phone company or Currys stitched you up for contents insurance, theft of handset etc.,? Well I took this out and cancelled all other insurance and the morons at the bank changed my overdraft without my permission!

    What idiots!!

    Be warned.

    Indeed, I felt sick.

I dread that envelope and I have sued the bank three times in the past for sending me this letter each time I've won the case, its exorbitant and I refuse to pay it.

They know that so its a waste of postie's time.

But as for tampering with my overdraft!Angry

Name and shame...which bank was it?

Someone told me at work yesterday how Abbey charged him an unauthorised overdraft fee, because a cheque got cashed in the morning, and funds did not hit his account till the afternoon, on the SAME BANKING DAY!

I thought overdraft positions are only recognised at the END of a banking day, but my word talk about Abbey taking the wee wee.

Well they lost his custom immediately and took his business elsewhere.

    cheeky fockers.

Probably just a simple admin error, but they have a habit of causing such a problem.

I've spent the last month on and off the phone to my bank because my joint account doesn't come up on my online banking. Each time I get a different reason and noone seems able to link the account??

Barclays have given me a lot of hassle the last 24mths or so with incompetant telephone and internet banking services, basically took 6 months to get a replacement debit card from them after I snapped the other on my bike. Had my internet account access hacked open to the point where they had the lot bar my password and I was imdeiatly made out to be the criminal and had all internet bankign barred from me and had a listign on my account for ti to be watched closey by the anti fraud divison (really annoyed and stressed me out this one)

So basicaly had weeks of fighting a lost battle so went to my branch manager and said look Im not happy I have had to use my credit card as a cash card its cost me 100 quid in charges for withdrawals over the time ive had to use it like this out of the telephone bankigns incompitance where i ordered a new card and have been fobbed off ti s int he post each time and now all this with my internet stuff.

So a letter formaly written to him and his meeting minutes form when I visted him along with a letter to Barclays head office sating the issues and if I ditn have a resolve In 24hrs from reciept of this letter (ups for 9.30am) I would cease my business with them (22yrs worth) and would go to a rival bank and would tell my frineds and family who banked with them to do the same.

Within 4 hrs of them signing the letter recipt thing (ups) I had a call saying they would give me the money due for using my credit card for cash £100 (this also included any payment protection costs etc), £60 as a good will gesture a full upgrade of my accoutn to there additions one (breakdown, mobile ins etc etc all included) for 12mths free usially £12 a month and full new set up of an online facility and internal investigation with there call centre so I ended up happy with £160 to spank on new shiney things and free rac cover mobile insurance etc for a upgraded account for free. And a letter of appolgy asking me to stay a loyal customer to them (so a bit of brown nosing)

so it is worth beign harsh with them and puttign in some threats of leavign even if it is a bluff he who doesnt fight his corner will never be a winner

Ive had many experiences like this and tbh i cant be bothered getting angry at it anymore. Ive just learned to accept the FACT that the people in charge of my account are infact stupid, no other description fits them better than STUPID! They just want your money and dont really give a toss how they go about it, daylight robbery in some cases. To name and shame a few the worst by far have been The Bank of Scotland (The Halifax probably falls under the same umbrealla) for their mystery bank charges and The Clydesdale bank for employing monkeys instead of human beings.

Other than that though ive always found the Nationwide to be top notch. Not likeing this new self service telephone crap though, i prefer some human contact, even if it was some Indian call centre where the guy cant understand a word im trying to tell him and i can barely understand me!

Barclays are a nightmare with telephone banking passcodes, they won't allow prompts either which I suppose isn't a bad thing BUT I've suspended my account a good five times.

The telephone banking was not passcode probs it was incompitant workers in the call centre not doing what was asked or requested or jsut sendign pin numbers out instead of a card and a pin like asked I recieved about 30 pin numbers that were sent for my card but no card over the space of the 6mths wait I was soo annoyed it was untrue. So far all seems ok with barclays tho I get annoyed with them wantign em to take loans with them all the time and shitty free wine offers with barclay card but hey ho might jsut shred them up put all the shreddings in a big envelope and post them to them without the postage maybe they will learn. I do that will all my junk mail cut off any identifying adress or name then put it in a a3 envelope and wait till its as full and a s heavy as i can get it then I post it off with out postage addressed to the managign director with a random adress I find on one of the offending items haha make them pay out a bit wont it.
