While it's not a deal breaker, I'm trying very hard to find a Golf with a Hi-Line display. Should I have to go without, just how difficult and expensive is it to retro fit - are the clocks/dash all one unit?

I apologise if this has been covered before, please point me in the correct direction if there is info anywhere. I've had a quick scan of recent posts and couldn't find any info. Thanks.

can't remember the full details but the retro fit would be quite expensive.

Easy fit. Need Vagcan (Not confuss with Vagcom (VCDS) to read the SKC of old clock display then install new highline display and program it with old display's SKC.

What does it consist of? Are the dials one complete sealed unit or is the hi-line screen a separate component?

Can anyone offer a ballpark figure in terms of price - "quite expensive" isn't a great deal of help as this is VAG we are talking about, so it goes without saying... Ta

And is Vagcan as widely available as Vagcom - I assume CanBus has to be coded separately, I thought Vagcom could access this?

Normally the full dial display has to be bought.

Why not ask your dealer the price for the display.

At the monet there's one on eBay.

I believe this thread on vwvortex may help, though I guess it's for a US spec car

I'm kinda considering doing the same on my Jetta, but a bit too scared of breaking stuff. Let me know how you get on :)

Ive got the tools to do it and ive got an highline unit but its not the right one??? you need an highline unit from an 05 reg car to be able to code it properly,  any thing above this ive been told has different encryption software.

    Cheers guys.

However, now I'm a little confused - from the vortex post, it would seem that you need a hi-line display/screen (which I'm now assuming is a complete unit with the dials/gauges?) and the upgraded hi-line CECM to run it? It's not just a case of swapping over the dash unit for one with the full height hi-line display?
