     Hi,

Bought this car recently and now need to change all 4 tires.  Any recommendations to what tire works well on a Mark IV Golf TDI 150 225/40/18?  Sorry if there is a thread for this already as new to the forum.

    Cheers

Plenty of threads on tyres already.

I use the same size as you and run Dunlop Sport 9000 SP's. Superb tyres in dry and wet.

    Thanks for your replies...much appreciated

I have the Golf Anni version to in Black... Smile

I was looking at the Dunlop Sport 9000s (as they were recommended by 2 tire dealers I phoned) but was slightly concerned as they are not listed as having a reinforced side wall?  Is the sidewall ok on them for a low profile tire?

The new Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics have been having good reviews in the mags so its good to from someone who has tried them.  Do they have reinforced side walls?  How much are they roughly price wise?

At the moment I have continental sport contact 2s on it but its hard to know how good they are as they shot....

I've got a couple of dunlops on mine - good as a tyre but a smidgen noisy.  One massive plus point for them is a huge rim protector to protect your wheels - I've been forced up against a kerb a few times where my wheel really should've got at least a mark but the wheels survived unscathed Smile

I have Bridgstone RE050 all round on my Anni and would recomend them.  I used to use Goodyear F1's all round but they always seemed to wear funny when doing motorway miles no matter what pressures I ran in them.

I run the same size tyres and use Uniroyal Rain Sport.  They have been brilliant and stick like glue to the road, wet or dry.  They don't cost too much either.

Only downside I'd say is that they wear fairly quickly.  I think they're not good for more than 20k miles to a pair on the front...

Now that is cheeky! Smile I only mentioned it because I orginally wanted a bit of stretch but 225/40`s on a 8.5j rim gives no stretch at all but I`m happy with them now anyway.

I have Yoko A539s on, but the previous owner fitted them, in this size. Can get Michelin Pilot Sport or summit for £143 a corner in 225/40/18s.

Do you not get any stretch on 8.5j rims? I have falken FK451 tyres in 225/40/18 and there's noticeable stretch (which I don't want). Fancy a swap! I might try these, or the dunlops that harveysduvet mentioned with bigger rim protection apparently. Sounds good to me, specially after paying a fortune to get my rims refurbed.

nope no stretch at all, you can see from the pic below that they have huge rim protection, I love the stretched euro look but cant justify getting a new set as the F1s werent cheap so will keep them till I need to change again
