How easy is it do change the front right outer CV boot? Mine has split but still has greece in it so I hope I found it early.

Can I just unbolt the inner joint and the outer nut and get the shaft out without taking the suspension appart? The shaft can only be about 50cm long which will help.

Once the shaft is out, will the outer CV joint knock off or do I need to release a circlip or something? Would it be easier to remove the inner one off the shaft and slide the boot on from that end?

    Any help would be appricated.

you can do it one of two ways

    first:
remover complete driveshaft whcih requires removal of, hub nut (30mm double hex lock nut), 6 bolts from gearbox flange (8mm or 10mm 12spline bolts),remove anti-roll bar liink to bottom arm bolt (16mm bolt), bottom ball joint to lower arm bolts (3 x 13mm bolts)

    second:
leave driveshaft attachet to the transfer box, remove hub nut, remover caliper carrier, remove antiroll bar to bottom arm bolt, remove 3 x 13mm bottom arm bolts, and there's enough room to pull the shaft to 1 side and replace boot

the joint just knocks off, there is a circlip but doesnt need pliers on it to remove the tension, just hold the joint inline with the driveshaft and give it a gentle tap

    Break It !
    Fix It !

Cheers, Great to get a complete answer so quickYes

I'll go for the first option because I have to change the drop link on the same side anyway.

When refitting the outer joint, does it just tap on or do I have to do something special to get the circlip back on?

Final question,, how much are CV boots from the stealers?

yeh the outer joint just taps back on and over the circlip

i dont tend to use dealer boots as they normally tend to be plastic and not very fittable...try searching local motor factors for a GKN c/v boot

Got it sorted yesterday while it was dry. Took about 2hrs to do but I was on the phone a lot.

I had to remove the drop link and the lower joint 3 bolts. But as I marked the position, the geometry was exactly the same afterwards so I didn't have to reset the tracking.

Any idea what the torque should be for the drive shaft nut?
