Do you want sat nav too? In this case the new TomTom Live systems are excellent (auto updating etc etc)

But if you want raw speed camera detector then the road angel proffessional series is excellent. They do a standard one and a connected one which auto updates!

Don't bother with road angel sat nav though, I could scribble on some screwed up loo roll and that would get you to your destination better than a road angel nav!

That's tricky with the new laser systems... In fact it would be easier to fit a laser jammer (search google for garage door openers Wink)

Disclaimer: In no way do I endorse the use of a Garage Door Opener as a laser jamming device.

With the mobile vans its easier just get a GPS detector, the modern ones have all the locations of the vans!

I'm trying to think of ones that actually work lol

The best way really for laser detectors is paint your car a matt colour, matt windscreen and matt number plate so the laser can't reflect!

Yes they do work, but not in the sense and practicality you would want one to work.

If you are following traffic, the car infront of you goes through a LIVE gatso, the detector unit will see the laser sniffing out the potential speeder in front, no good if there are no cars in front of you!

truvello are a completelty different matter, yes you will hear a beep, but when you hear that beep and providing you are doing over the speed limit, you have already been caught. Too late!

Same with mobile vans, it's only fluke your detector will detect their laser. And almost 99.999999% of the time it's too late anyway!

The only gaurantee of not being caught is to not speed!

Don't do the crime and you won't do the time!

PS: If you do do the crime get a decent solicitor! One got me off once!

detecting laser is pointless, by the time you know, its too late, perhaps a laser pro park would be a wise purchase, after all, you do struggle parking, dont you, officer

I am still really happy with my microfuzion camera detector, I had mine flocked in felt to take that awful glare off, from the right angle you cannot see it at all. Its the smallest one that I've seen, loads of features, easy to use and dirt cheap. Had mine years and my good friend has one too, never let us down.

i'm just looking to not get done speeding, i have been a very good boy for the last three years and just got my clean license back after 9 points, then... bang two tickets this morning, 36mph and 45mph in a 30 limit, taken 4minutes apart.... they were on the ouskirts of town, got me going in the garage and then me leaving... the buggers....

I don't really know whats best and whats essential.... i'm not in the least fussed about sat nav, I've never had it and never got lost.... What advatages does road angle pro have over road angle 2, i've seen RA2's going cheap over the web,

    ow

As above, laser detectors are hard to come by now and are not worth it unless you have lightening fast reactions. By the time its gone off to warn you, you've had your speed read several times already by the laser gun anyway.

Radar detectors aren't as much use as they used to be now as the majority of coppers use the laser guns now. Ive not seen a radar gun in use now for a couple of years.

Best bet is to buy a GPS based detector from SNOOPER. They have the most up to date and comprehensive speed camera location database of any of the detectors out there. They have a team on the road every day dedicated to updating their database and you can download these updates via a PC as often as you like. They also rapidly add the locations of roadworks cameras and new speed van sites and also have a comprehensive list of 'risk zones' where mobile enforcement is likely.

I have a Snooper Indago and am very pleased with it. The speed camera locating is totally spot on. However as this is more of a speed camera locator than a sat nav and I have found a few errors on the route directions when using the navigation, This is apparantly down to Navteq mapping rather than Snooper themselves. The route shown is always correct but the voice guidance very very occasionally says the wrong direction. Follow the route shown and all is fine. This doesnt bother me though as I wanted a top notch camera locator more than a sat nav and with Snoopers excellent database you cant go wrong.

Golf has now gone. Modded the A4 130 TDi Sport with Votex kit, tints, 18's and ambient and puddle lighting so far.

Had a road angel plus for a couple of years but just btoke a few weeks ago, something came loose inside it.  Was very good when it worked and didnt miss any speed cameras at all.  For £200 it should have lasted longer than 2 years

i wouldn't say i drive fast or recklessly, i just drive alot, for years i was doing 500+miles a week. i've been driving for 15 years now... for 10 years i had no endorsments at all, then i started doing the odd night shift after a 40mile comute each way.. i got 9 points in 6 months of doing nights... i just got tired and drift into 30 limits abit to quick... i'm not looking to blag the system, i just want somthing to remind me to slow down and protect my license.. i live in the middle of nowhere and am totally isolated without my license.....

I have TomTom on my phone (PDA) and use the camera database at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&referer=SideBar

It is VERY accurate and cheap (£20 for the year).

    Road angel off ebay £40

Cant really fault it, except i dont bother updating it as cameras rarley change around where i drive, and the upsdates are around £50 a year, only thing it doesnt get are the temporary roadwork ones and it sometimes goes off on the middle of the motorway where there may have been roadworks, but all this is due to me not updating it!

Been using it for about a year and i cant fault it otherwise, its got a few mobile vans before and spotted one lazer, but yes it is too late as id already seen it!
Mainly use mine as a digital speedo now, gives the exact speed and goes with the colours of all the dials! Great peice of kit for £40 and i hardwired it in to the ignition and velcroed it to the dash so its nice and neat!

I think if your going to get one, buy a cheaper one and dont fork out on an expensive one, as they all pretty much do the same thing!

Basicly above the pedals are 2 kick panels, take all the visible screws down and it should pop out, ther will be a big terminal block with a bunch of relays next to it, you need to look for an ignition live terminal, and the grounding point, i just wired a peice of flex up to these, added a switch mounted by the boot relise and just fed the wire behind the dasboard! Really easy to do tbh!
