    hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere I can get standard or uprated engine mounts from for a reasonable price? The one on the gearbox side of my car is deff dead and i Imagine the other side is not much better. I uprated the dogbone mount to a powerflex one not long ago so that ones fine.

Also does anyone know of a good guide to changing them? the gearbox side looks easy enough, but the cambet side looks a little trickier due to the lack of space.

    Thanks,

    James

Uprated ones I know of are the ones from VF Engineering which are a bit pricey or the Density mounts from 034 Motorsport.  I've not experience of either though so couldn't tell you what they're like I'm afraid.

Cheers Jon, I've had a look at the VF ones already but I'll check out the 034 MotorSport versions.

Why the hell are these things so expensive? I fitted engine mounts to about 7 or 8 cars and these are by far the most expensive to upgrade that i've come across.

I am enquiring with a company about a possible group buy on uprated engine mounts the 034 motosport ones to be specific. I am awaiting an email reply from them so this is just a very early feeler.

So would anyone be interested in a possible discount on either/all of the 3 uprated engine mounts through a group buy type scheme?

Looks as though there are a load more engine mount options than when I last looked at mounts. The density ones look particularly attractive, but I had Vibratechnics mounts fitted to mine last November.

You're welcome to have a look at mine next week at the Reading meet - the vibration is a bit more than standard, but not massively intrusive. The gearchange and handling certainly are better with the firmer mounts controlling the engine movement...

Cool cheers for that dave. I'll deff have a look next sunday!

I'd love the Vibratechnics mounts but they cost a fortune at all the places I've seen.

    Did you fit yours yourself?

They're definitely not cheap! I bought them quite a while ago now, and there were fewer mounts on the market when I was looking. Certainly have changed the feel of the car when cornering and the gearchange feels much more solid.

No, I didn't fit them myself - didn't feel confident enough! The guys at APS fitted them for me when I had my last service. I've done about 3,000 miles since they were fitted, and they have settled down a bit.

    cheers, Dave

Think I would like to give some uprated ones a try i prefer it when things feel more solid and positive. But i dont think I'm going to be able to splash out that much.

fitting them wont be hard, youll only need to remove 4 bolts on the gearbox side and they come off

got any details of this reading meet?

I have just fitted a set of Density 'Street' version mounts to my Mk1 Octy last friday.

I did have a powerflex bush fitted in my dogbone mount as well.

The car does feel a lot better now, accelleration is smoother and no lift off from the front end.It feels more stable turning in now and i haven't got any nasty vibrations on start up.

I managed to get mine in a group buy last year when the dollar was a lot better, something like £176 including delivery and VAT.

I don't think i would buy them at the current rate as it would cost nearer £280 once you facture in VAT etc.

The group buy last year was on SCN and was though INA.

cant find them as cheep as that but its still a good price, let us know how they feel.

they claim the mounts work on the 1.8 and 1.9 tdi, wondering if they can handle the weight of a v6

The THS mounts turned up today, very well engineered. Actually came to £113 with delivery, an thats all three of them. A good ebay bargain direct from the THS distributor. Thy usually retail for £188 iirc.

I've had lots of fast road cars with solid/fast road mounts before an they sucked as an everyday drive (great for track though), hoping these will be better. I've bought this Golf to keep the mrs quiet so I can drive it everyday, so hoping they wont be too harsh. I'll get some bushes and some Bilsteins next week an i'll be done :)

Fitted the THS mounts today. Awesome. No vibration through the dash on tickover, just solid feeling pulloff from low revs, smooth direct gearchanges and gets rid of the juddering when pulling off. VERY IMPRESSED
