Just a quick info update;

The ST3 now has an automatic software update function for the latest cars, you simply open the software and it will prompt you to update.

This doesnt mean the st3 needs to be erased and then new files ordered, it just allows for the bios updates within the hardware, this should mean faster load times as well as new car releases.

upgraded mine the night before when it prompted me, didn't take long, although it did come up in italian (install part) - after that everything was as normal, apart from a new icon on the desktop - so deleted the old one. all done.

my guess this is only on new ST3 Console software and is most likely not needed for anyone using older software.  mine is v3.25 (I think)

as mine is so slow to remap my car (18mins+) i tried updating the software, but it doesnt seem to be prompting me? any ideas?

 My software doesn't do this, do I need to download another copy/version first?

the last time I upgrade my software you had to get new maps again because the way the maps are read by a new software.  I doubt if everyone needs ANY new software unless there is a major issue with reading/writing there own maps.

Just how do you update the software?

When I done itand it was an old version to v3.25 I had to revert the car back to standard, then reinstall new software onto your computer then select car model and then send the firmware to you ST3, this overwrites all the data + and (afaik) your maps.  then read the standard map again using the new software and then send the file to chippedUK.

I dont know if they would allow you just to do this without contacting them first.

The point is do you really need to update the software? unless you have a new car that is unsupported with your old software the majority of the time the answer is no.

Phone chippedUK and I did say PHONE, first of all since they will need to confirm if you can do this without paying any fee to them to reprogramming your maps.

Well, thing is I bought one some time ago when they first came out and it's never worked. I just wondered if an update would sort the issue out. Wishfull thinking I would presume as I think it's an issue with the cars ecu rather than the ST3.

the Bios that your ST3 has maybe old or does not recognise your ECU, an updated Bios would allow more compatibility with newer ECUs.

When you then use it to write the car the new functions are fully active.

We also have a policy of not charing for maps should an update be availible, but please do call us prior to sending any reads.

if your having probs hosting the file Simon, I can host a newer version again no problem.

so with the new version installed can we still use the older existing maps to change between or do we still require new maps for the new software swap between the maps?

The most recent version of the Powergate software is available @ http://www.alientech.to/xnote/pwgpro/pwgdwl.htm.

Currently the version is 3.59 - this is not the ST3 badged version but the 'generic'.

Can you give a link to the latest software and Firmaware please? I can't seem to get any reply from the Chipped Uk e-mail address- I get a read confirmation, but no reply, so not sure my e-mails aregoing to the right person. My ECU was re-flashed (updated) by VW I took a new read of the original and sent it but that was with V 3.25 - the maps I have wont write to the handset now. Can someone reply please as its been over a week with no response. Let me know if I need to phone you. Cheers.

 Alientech have just announced version 3.65 of their software for Powergate (V-Switch, ST3, etc) which is capable of writing to BMW Bosch EDC17 ECUs - perhaps the VW EDC17s will follow soon?

VAG Counter managing

On BOSCH engine control units EDC 16CP34, 16U, 16U31 and 16U34 equipped on VAG Vehicles (Volkswagen/Audi Group) is embedded an electronic counter that keeps the number of reprogramming made on the ECU. Starting by the new version will be possible to manage this counter, in two differents ways:

    *      Reset, with which you can clear the VAG counter.
    *      Stealth, with which is possible to restore the VAG counter the previous value, in this way the last reprogramming will be invisible.

POWERGATE users enabled to reprogramming VAG vehicles that uses the communication protocol #107 should reset their tool and configurate with the protocol #128 to use the new VAG Counter feature
