Having sold my MK5 GTI a few months ago, due to the high fuel costs, and getting a Leon FR TDI 170, i have now had enough of the rattly, noisy and smelly diesel engine.

So, i thought that i would try out the new 1.4 TSI engine, my first choice was the up-coming Ibiza Cupra, but  with all the production delays it would another 3 months until i could get one.

That brought me to the new MK6 Golf GT 160, and after a short search, i found one , in Candy White, close to home that was listed as second hand, but on visiting the VW dealership, its was in fact brand new and unregistered.

It also had the 18In Vancouver Alloys fitted, along with the upgraded RCD510 touch screen head unit.

Pics will follow when i pick it up next week...

A poor photo from the advert, probably taken on a dealer employee's phone...

I was getting around 18-22 mpg in the GTI

It is around 35-48 mpg in the Leon, so roughly double that of the GTI

I hope to get about 35-38 mpg in the GT 160, so only slightly less than the Leon FR TDI

All the above all depend on how they are driven.

Thats the first time I have seen the new golf in white but it definately suits it! Yes

I think that most new cars suit white just now eg the new scirocco, A5 and leon.

    Definately a good choice like.

Ditto, look forward to more pictures. The only ones I've seen driving round are grey, black and red - white is certainly one of the better colours, what with that black grill and all!

Its on my drive, but as im out on the wee wee tonight i wont have time to get any pics.

I will take some in the morning, weather permitting.

Also, i am having the paint professionally prepared, protected and detailed on Saturday, so the better pics will posted after that.

As for the car itself, it looks and drives fantastic, its much smoother and quieter than the Leon FR TDI, but as yet, not as quick.

Obviously im not using the full rev range, as its brand new, and also the engine and gearbox feel very tight, so once it has done a few miles im sure it will be great.

Looks very nice indeed.  Tbh, I saw a white GTI in the showroom 2 weeks ago and really didnt like the color there - but it looks sweet on the GT.  I felt the white made the GTI look too 'fat' and it may be the 3 doors on your car (GTI was 5door), or it may be that the GTI front end that made it look bigger, but your car looks slick.  The 18" Vancouvers look great.  On the other hand i am surprised that you dont get Climatronic as standard on the GT in the UK.  A lot of people have been complaining about the dials - I think the Climatronic is great.

Super car and smart to avoid the long wait you get from ordering from the factory.

That looks lovely from all angles. I've always thought that the shape of Mk5 rear lights are hideous. Mk6 rears look so much better.

There's loads of Mk6's round near me. (all the same colour too! a light metallic blue) I can see one now out my window. I know the fella is jealous of my Mk4 tho :) haha

Thanks for all the comments guys, and keep them coming.

I'm also surprised by the lack of CC, but as it wasn't a factory order, i'm stuck with it.

I have also read about complaints about the A/C dials, but i find them fine.

I think people are getting confused between aircon, climate control and dual zone climate control.

All Golf MKVIs come with climate control as standard. Climate control is simply an automatic version of air conditioning, whereby when the ambient air temperature changes, the cabin temperature is maintained without having to alter the knobs.

The option is simply a dual zone version of this with smarter / more controls, whereby each passenger can control their own side independently of the other, though in reality people can achieve a (sort of) similar effect by redirecting their vents.

I think you are getting confused by Volkswagens marketing materials!

The standard fit 'Climatic' aircon unit it just standard air-conditioning like on any car. VW brand it as semi-automatic climate control, but the actual technicalities of the system are no different to a standard aircon unit on any other car.

For it to be proper climate control it needs to have automatic control, which the Golf MKVI does not have as standard instead requiring the driver/ passenger to manually control the level of air-flow

I'd much rather have the simpler and more reliable 'Climatic' air conditioning as you appear to have. The fancier dual zone climate control is OK whilst it works but these systems go wrong unfortunately and then cost money to rectify.

How do you find those circular rotary heater controls - seem less intuitive to me and require looking at them to see where they're pointing - weak design there which I'll experience for myself when I take delivery in July.

Looks like I'm totally wrong, fairly embarassing. What exactly is semi-auto aircon then?!

Edit - it seems that semi-auto aircon controls the temperature but not the speed or direction, so it's somewhere between the two i.e. it does have automatic control of the temperature and it is not the same as any bog standard aircon system e.g. that of my Fiesta Mk6.

Seems to me if we followed thast line of thought we would still not have electric windows, power steering etc as they are improvements on a manual system but might be expensive if they go wrong.

From my experience of Dual zone, it has never gone wrong and gives a set and forget setting, so is fiddled with less than a manual system which has to be be constantly set the prevailing conditions but only my opinion

Dont forget that the climatronic settings appear on the monitor in pretty large numbers so it isnt like you have to be looking down at the dials...  I love the climatronic and we use it far too much.  The car is so damn quiet with the windows up that I tend to close them and use either the CC or the reg ventilation.  Air conditioning in cars used to make me feel a bit 'sickish' but not with the Golf.

    My thoughts also.

Had the dual zone in the Leon after having the simpler A/C in a Golf Mk5, found the dual zone too arsy, glad to be back to the std aircon in the Mk6

To be honest, i also prefer the simple A/C fitted to my Mk6.

The C/C in the Leon FR was just too fussy, and wasn't very intuative.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the positive feedback for my car if any other info is needed, just let me know.

You're totally right. And even though 'Climatic' may not be as fancy, it still controls the temperature, which I have to say is much nicer than manual aircon, like the one in my girlfriends Astra...

Had 'Climatic' in my Mk5, and will get it again in the Mk6 GT I (hopefully) will get in a few weeks...
