You asked what to do, either get a aftermarket headunit or upgrade to the RCD510/RNS510 and get the MDito get decent integration between the headunit and the ipod

Didn't Apple change the charging pins on the latest ipods ?

I did not have a signature until I put this line of text here.

get one of these and all your old leads will charge new generation iPods/iPhones - CLICK (but get it from ebay as they're cheaper on there)

that is the radio fitted in the car - RCD 510 and it comes with 2 MDi leads - a USB one and an iPod one as standard. using either of these to connect the iPod/iPhone gives us an error, but if we play a CD for a minute, then it might start working again, it even charges the iPhone as well (when it works!)

sorry, just a bit peeved off that its playing up!

he doesn't want to change the stereo as he wants the steering wheel controls and track info on the speedo screen.

because i wanted to know if anyone else is having problems with the factory iPod lead and RCD 510. and searching Scirocco Central has found that we are not alone! i just tried here first as i'm on here all the time and had to sign up at SC to make/view posts!

sorry for being a moody bugger, just peeved off that it should work being brand new and not be playing up!

    cheers

Why dont you just RIP all the MP3s to the RNS510 stick them all in the memory card hole instead on a 2GB Chip? No need for the ipod at all then.

Does the RNS510 have a Hard Disk same as the MFD510?

The ipod lead is basic but it does the job, my 30GB ipod worked fine when i had the Golf, it doesn't display track names and pretty works like a CD changer through the head unit. No ipod prep in the Audi though. Angry

because we haven't got another HDD or 2gb chip. we all have iPods and none work correctly! plus we have the RCD510, not the sat nav!
