Im part of the turbo crew.. big jump from my 1.4e.. Finnaly got myself a 1.8t today.. got a few teaser pics from original add.. but the car will totally transform tommrowo as im going to be taking alloys etc from my other golf and transfering it to the new golf..

I have to say what a difference.. the handling.. the power.. im in love.. ive already done 150 miles in it.. and ive been at work today too.. haha.. had a 200 mile round trip to pick it up.. anway the car stats:

    Year: 2003

    Standard 1.8t 150bhp..AUM

    57800 miles FVWSH

    Sport Seats (Not recaro)

    16" Montreal alloys..

Very clean inside out not one scratch or dint..

Wooden trim (which i always thought looked really bad but actually its grown on me and i kinda like it..

    PICS:

    Future plans checklist..:

    Alloys (Tommorow)

    TT pedals

    Hella Celis Headlights

    Aero rear wiper

    Coilovers..

    Recaro Leathers

    Bora sport clocks

    R32 Steering wheel

Remap (Need some info on what kind of BHP ill be looking at..)

I think thats about it for now but im more than sure the list will grow.. see ive thought of something else already.. Rline bumpers.. FMIC.. and so on lol..

Im new to this turbo world so any advice is appreciated in engine mods etc.. filters type of filters.. i want to hear the turbo spool up and dump.. (Not a dump valve) but turbo chatter.. but not sure which combo is best..

By tommorow i wil update with the new transformation pics.. :) i cant wait...! The modding bug has seriously got me!!

    All Comments welcome

    Golfin

Great looking pics and the car is very clean!

First off, turbo chatter is bad.  You best of getting a dump valve to hear the dump.

niiiiiice you gotta get a CAI and aftermarket re-circ DV for the dump sound.

stage 1 remap on my AGU took me from 150bhp to 191.3 AmD remap. with catback milltek, vr6 clutch and g60 single mass flywheel, and piperX VIS kit.

if you remap, invest in some better brakes just a tip from experience.

Which turbo has the AUM got? Is it the KO3s if so can this be remapped to a higher bhp than the AGU?

That looks to be in great condition - nice find.  Cool

As above - I loved the turbo chatter sound mine used to make, until I realised this was due ot a split diagphram in the DV and lost me 30BHP when rolling roaded recently.  Crying  You can uprate the DV to either Forge or Bailey for under £100.  If you fit a Cone filter, you'll still hear the dump hiss each time you drop the clutch - mine does this with a Bailey DV30 Dump Valve and a K&N 57i Induction kit.

Re-map will work out about 200BHP for an AGU and around 210BHP for a standard AUM.

Welcome to the fast club.  Big Smile

Congrats on the new motor mate, after 2 1/2 years with the 1.4 you must be chuffed.

You talking about the sump guard? yea you should have one if not grab one off ebay or from the stealers, especially if your planning to drop it like it's hot Cool

It varries between 40 and 50mm so you should be safe with a 40mm drop.

I wouldn't go for a cone filter they suck up lots of warm air, go for a green cotton panel filter in the standard airbox and big cold air feed... people have had better results from that setup.

I have an AUM and had the forge split-R DV for a while with no problems, it has a subbtle dump sound while keeping the sensors happy Yes

Nice jammer by the way looks VERY clean

    Hi Mate,

You'll only get problems with upgrading the DV if you use a non recirculating one.  The Bailey DV30 I have is recirculating, so no problems.  The dump hiss actually comes through the cone filter.  If you do fit a cone, do this before you replace the DV - you won't believe how lush the chattering sounds!  Devil

210BHP won't do the car any harm at all.  The only component that will really suffer is the clutch, and this will only wear seriously early if you keep pulling away with racing starts (although it is tempting as the re-map totally changes the performance of the car - it really feels like a GTi with 25% more power).  Yes

Thanks for all the comments guys.. still getting used to driving it.. by god its fun to have power but also realise how important too for example pulling away from roundabouts etc.. helps alot!! The car looks different now! im updating the thread now... didnt realise how good my alloys of the 1.4 suited the black (well in my opinion anyway.. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Yeah found that out today about the recirc.. like i said still new to this game! The remap is tempting although now i got the power theres things i wanna do that i didnt on the 1.4 like slamming it.. etc.. already got the hella's and wheels sorted (and they suit the car better as the GTI is slightly lower standard too!!)

Before anyone comments on the centre caps.. they are a pain in the *** to remove for some reason really really tight so i left them off so as not to damage them as tommorow if i feel up for it im going to paint the calipers red! Zip it!

The engine got a good clean out..Cant beleive the amount or should i say lack of space in the engine bay now.. i swear in the 1.4 i could fit another 1.4 beside it haha!

Another day with the car and some more progress..

To the brake calipers.. Took my time and made sure all the lines and cut off points were straight and the same on both sides.. (Time being a good 4-6 hours for all the calipers.. The results:

Then done the rear aero wiper conversion:

    Ooooo and some TT pedals:

:) Another day with the GTI! (Day 2)

Good step up, I too went from a 1.4 to 1.8T but mine was a mk3 Golf.

Getting on well and quick with changing the stuff over, looking good.

Well i thought id give the car a good clean before i head off to GTI Inters tommorow morning and i started cleaning the engine bay.. so i took the engine cover off and was confronted with this!

Initial thoughts i hadnt felt any problems with the car really and it looked like it had been that way for some time.. although the car according to its service history and VW dealer had a service 2 months ago.. Hows did they not notice the pipe!?? SO i took to phoning around to locate another pipe new or used i just wanted it fixed but being a saturday no luck and all the 3rd party places kept telling me it was a dealer part only.. so Dad being a plumber with some pipes i thought of a quick fix for tommorows 4 hour round trip drive.. this is what i came up with..:

A 22mm 90 degrees bend pushed between the original hose and the outlet on the engine and fitted into the holes on the pipe.. and good old MR duck tape to give it a good temporary seal

My only potential problem now is the copper over heating with engine heat and melting the rubber worn rubber pipe and duck tape..

    Whats your opinions??

looks like you have got a very clean one there mate,

if it melts the duck tape just keep resealing it till it can be fixed, thats what i would do
