    Hi

I am just about to take out a policy with bell but i have the option of getting 1 years NCB in 10 months but i read somewhere that the NCB earned in the 10 month policy only applies if you use it with the same company?

    Is that true?

And am i right in going for the 12 months policy as opposed to the 10?

    Cheers

Not worth the paper it's written on! As you've mentioned, the NCB will only be recognised by them, thus trying to ensure your business at renewal!

Go for the 12month.  the 10month policies are a con and other companies dont recognise them.

i had a bell policy on a 10 month thing for 3 years and i used it with another company, but to use it you need to get a letter from bell just stating you have 3 years ncd  if you use the policy thing they send at the end of the 10 months other companys wont take it ;)

I'm on a 9 month rapid bonus policy with Norwich Union and they've been brilliant.

Always give me the cheapest price at renewal time, and they always come up trumps when I phone up to say can they help on getting it cheaper.

I protected my no-claims as soon as I got to an equivalent of 4 years NCB (after 36 months) so won't loose it now. Glad I did as well, had a total-loss accident 3 months after protecting but even so, still only paying £325 for 9 months on my Mk5 1.9 TDI. Bargain tbh. I'd recommend it to anyone, even though the rapid bonus doesn't seem to be transferable.

The trouble is that as a young driver, most insurers can't give more no-claims that you could have been driving, so be they will do is match the number of years driving.

I change mye car every 18 months or so and dont want to be tied down to an insurance company...

@Fabtdi - i think I'll just pay for the extra 2 months as insurance is hard enough as it is for me and dont really want to make it any harder by some companies refusing my NCB.

Guess 12 months is the route to take!

    Thanks everyone for your input!

I had a bonus accelerator policy with Admiral, and transferred to swift after 20 months and they honoured the 2 years no claims.

The only time you'll be buggered using a 10 month accelerator is if it's the first ten months since you passed your test. And then it's obvious you've only been driving 10 months.

If you've been driving years, the insurer who offers the 10 month policy will issue you with a letter saying you have 1 year NCD from it.

Definately not my experience with them, though having done quotes before with loads of companies you do always get some who for whatever reason don't want to insure you.

Odd, but I'll definately be sticking with them!

Apparently according to Norwich Union i get 5 years no claims bonus providing i dont have a smash this year, i believe its non transferable but i believe that the 5 years NCB with them will be much cheaper then going with a different insurer anyways. I had to double check what i was hearing when the guy on the phone explained the terms and conditions. Im on a good quote aswell £1700 per year at 17, passed my test last month.

I guess im one of the luckier teenage lads when it comes to insurance.

     Say that again?

You'll get 5 years no claims bonus after only 12 months driving? That can't be right.

    Honestly man , WTF...

That damn AVIVA are stiff in their own poo to quoting me something reasonable other than £4750 for my '99 TDi90

I'm 21 and been driving a year with no accidents. & for the record the nearly all of London is high-risk, period.
