    Evening All,

I have noticed in the last few days that my Golf MK4 1.8T AUM is using far too much fuel. I have been driving pretty sedate and I have only just managed to get over 20mpg which is pretty shocking compared to 26-27 that i usually get. Sometimes I can smell fuel outside the car and have a feeling the fuel filter is leaking as this happened on my MK4 Polo. The fuel filter at the tank is made out of metal and seems to corode causing fuel to come out of the filter sometimes at an alarming rate.

Could this hot weather be causing the high consumption? I have had the climate control on low pretty much all week but cant imagine this would cause the fuel consumption to drop so far?

    Cheers in advance Help

20 does seem a little low..if you can smell fuel get it up on a ramp and checked out, any marks on the ground when you have parked up for a while?... can't really say MPG as i don't use mine on aircon, i just wind the windows down..

I had a fuel leak on my AUM by the petrol cap, it was somehow leaking through the cap and into the overflow pipe (the hole under the cap) and dripping down the pipe onto the floor behind the rear arch lining. It was a dodgy breather/gravity valve in the filler neck, mind you, that stunk of petrol.  It only happened on hot days when the pressure built up more in the tank. Have a good sniff around to see where its coming from

for real, ive been having the same problem , my MTE subtracts 40 miles within 20 mins of driving on a straight 8-10 mile road

I did notice the fuel rainbow colour below the fuel cap when i was washing th car but didnt think anything of it, i was guessing my car needed new engine oil?
