Right, I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my front passenger side brake was making a scratching noise. It sounded like the disc was warped as it wasnt constant, it only happened when I was turning at low speed (like pulling away from a parking space).

This went away after about a day but its back now.

I took the wheel off but can see no signs of damage to the disc or pads. But what I did notice was that it was very hard to turn the disc by hand. It was dragging slightly.

Should a disc always be dragging? If it should, then can anyone think what my problem might be???

    Thanks

    Neil

P.S. I had the car serviced roughly 10k km ago and the mechanic reported that the brakes were in excellent condition.

Its difficult to say. I need to turn the radio down almost all of the way to hear it if the windows are up.

Its been getting louder the last few days too.

Sounds like it could be pads siezed in the caliper bracket or your piston, try cleaning out guide/slider mechanism first and put it all back together with coppergrease.

if it's your piston and you not sure about working on brakes get it looked at maybe a build up of rust on the piston is making it stick..

     Hi,

No I never discovered what it was. I reckon it was something simple like grit stuck between the disc and caliper/pad somewhere.

I took it to the garage and the mechanic went to investigate the problem but it didnt happen then (it was an intermittent noise) and since then it hasnt happened.
