Hey people,

Im contemplating fitting an R32 rear drivetrain to the mk4. I think id be at much more advantage to do the conversion as im putting a rebuild engine in soon and the turbo's good for 490bhp, i was going to run it on low boost being 2wd.

Does anyone know the complications behind this ?

I know i'll need a 4 motion box, prop shaft, all rear running gear and need to sort brake lines.

Anything else i should be aware of ?

    Many thanks,

    Jrd,

     Do it.

My advice would be to buy a front end smashed 4mo.

Won't it just cost the same for insurance when you declare the new engine?!

mate if you cant afford the insurance when you get the engine conversion theres no point doing it not declaring mods will void your insurnace anyway so your practically gonna be driving around uninsured not a good idea,

and now with alot of traffic police calling up insurers to confirm your policiy has all your mods declared your just asking for trouble, if i were you id drive a few years build up the no claims and get the car you want when you can afford it.

    just my 2p.

It's not as simple as just bolting everything up - you need to cut the boot floor out and swap it for a 4Motion one, change the fuel tanks, put the wiring in for the haldex controller etc. There's a thread on vortex by a bloke who did it - there's an awful lot to do.

As for insuring mods - you should, end of. Why do you even bother paying your premiums if you know you're not insured? If you can't afford to insure the mod, then you can't afford the car.

How about this for an idea. Get a small engined car for a couple of years, build up some no claims and proper driving experience, then do the conversion.

Its bellends like you who give the rest of us a bad nameSad

    Is this a wind up??

Cant belive that on a public forum you have just admitted that you have drove uninsured for two years & that your not going to declare the new engine to the company that you finally have insurance with!!

Unbelivable , no wonder premiums are so high for everyone else!!!!!

The floorplan is completely different. You'd have to strip the car down to the bare chassis then start cutting & welding - mahoosive job. Wouldn't be worth paying for someone else to do it so unless you can do it yourself for free then I'd give up now Stick out tongue

As for the insurance thing - I personally have no care what you do... But if you crash it you wont get a penny back... So bare that in mind!!

Aint work it buddy, i turned 19 last week. i put a 130 tdi engine in and couldnt get insured even though it was only 15 more than i had been insured on, the reason is the company knows you have been messing around with it just to go fast.

A young person in a modded car WILL get pulled over by the cops so you will get found out, u only need a tiny prang and ur car has to be repaired and then the insurance asssor would spot it a mile off its thier job!

Im 19, Im with Aviva and have been driving for 11 months. I am getting coilovers fitted to my car on Friday which I AM declaring to Aviva. Without doing so I would be uninsured if I crash, which is obviously something I hope I dont do. My insurance is going to be going up to just under £150 per month. Now I can afford to pay this but this is such a high price compared to people who could drive the same car as me and pay a very small percentage of what I pay per month for a whole years worth of insurance. As I am sure you and everyone else is aware, this is because of young drivers, the same age group as you and me driving around at silly speeds, crashing and costing insurance companies money.

    More to the point...

What annoys me about people like you is that the rest of us have to pay for your mistakes. I am paying a premium because you (amongst other people) are so inpatient, uncaring and selfish. You want an amazing car but cant be bothered to wait a few years so that you can get insured properly for all of your modifications. If you cant get pay extra to be insured for a modification then dont do it to your car until you can pay for it.

I go to college 3 days a week and work the other 4 days just so I can have a good time and modify my car, oh and DECLARE my mods and pay for them too!

Im sorry to ruin your thread but I dont have any respect for people like you who are so ignorant.

Well the idiots as you call them & you'll prob be calling me one now all have a point,

NOT DECLARING MODS MAKES YOUR INSURANCE VOID!

Now incase you don't understand what void means, when you crash your car & hopefully you dont kill anyone doing this your car is UNINSURED... meaning you will lose your car & licence, not that it will matter if you get sent down, idiot!

I cant belive how thick some people can be!

Your the one calling us law abiding car enthusiasts Idiots !!!

Yeah we must be idiots for making sure we are all legal & insured instaed of just thinking f@@k insurance I could spend that money on something that really matters.

If you dont want negative coments then don't post on a forum saying that your not going to tell the insurance company about the engine that you intend fitting & that for the last 2 years you couldnt even be arsed to have insurance!

Is this guy for real? What a pillock. Its dumb flips like this guy that make peoples premiums go up.

Being a young driver (turned 18 in august) im paying a LOT just for 3rd party insurance. And i suppose i owe that to complete cocks like you that have no regard for others.

Its taken me almost two weeks to get insurance for my car, ive had three cars now and never paid anything less than 1700 third party. I always understood it was because of the idiots out there and now Ive actually come across one all I can say is......

I wish you well with your conversion or whatever is your planning to do, then the first day after youve finished it and not declared it on your insurance you go put it in a ditch or summuts, I think its called karma Huh?

Isnt there a guy on here who is in the police force? Im sure there is but I cant remember his username. Not sure if its in his interest as if he does read this he must be out of work. But surely he can do something..

Yes I know you are going to be able to read this Jordy, (before anyone states it) but hopefully this will either put you off doing this, or decide to declare your mods, or just get caught :)

    LMFAO. What a fail mate.

Even worse than the FAIL of a thread title you gave the thread too.

Have you never throught you going t struggle to pass a MOT too? Higher emmissions of the 1.8t you may be putting in compared to the lower ones of the golf?

Are you even going to inform DVLA of the engine change? Probly not, so I hope they pull you over and crush your car.

Woah! I know I've preached about declaring mods but for someone to state out and out that idiots declare and you'll be ok is just disgusting! You work so hard to get something you're interested in to be perfect in the way you want it. You should be desperate to want to protect it! Insurance isn't costly, you have to earn it, sure but for peace of mind I'd pay it everytime!
