Had to take off the battery, placed back on and now i got ABS problem.

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/ESP_System_Function_Test_%28Bosch%29#ESP_System_Function_Test

In the link above is the guide to help the ABS function, thing is there is a feature in vagcom to enable esp testing, when i click it... the program then tells me OK. Do i leave vagcom running while i start the road test or can i close vagcom? im wondering how this works :(

I hate high tech cars, they are starting to get on my nervs, the brake pressure setup was great though i have to admit.

Have you moved the car since you reconnected the battery....the light might go off when you do about 5mph. Same as the steering light.

I think i performed a brake pressure test, not sure if it was correct but braking feels much better, i have tried everything so far, dont understand why i have abs light on and the light with the car swirving light. both stay on.

I dont understand how to perform the esp test thing, do i have to leave vagcom running or do i activate, shut vagcom and just drive and do as the guide tells me to?

I have not removed anything apart from fidling with the clock/cluster, i remmoved it to test another clock, placed it back and now have these faults. Could it be anything to do with the steering angle sensor? i did have a tough time at the start removing the clock as i did not know the steering wheel can be moved out towards me lol :(

Some progress, only ABS light is on now, vagcom (ABS brakes) gives an error code

    01486 - System function test activated 000 - -

I guess its reconfiguring its self? my ESP light keeps blinking when i press the brake, i have read that this can sometimes be due to failed bulb, just changed the right brake bulb 2 days ago, will post back to see if that problem is fixed after i get a better bulb.

Can anyone tell me where in vagcom i can adjust the brakes? i seem to have done it and forgot where in vagcom, braking feels weak again :( Also where i nthe engine bay is the brake oil top up?

that does seem weird if you have only disconnected your battery. I have disconnected by battery quite a few times and always get the ESP and Steering Warning lights on, but as thirty3 said above, as soon as I drive over 5 mph, stop, turn off the engine and re-start, the EPS light extingushes.

To sort the steering light, it's normally just a case of turning full lock one way, hold for a second, turn to the other lock, hold, centre the steering and drive forwards slowly.

Apart from these lights, I've never had any other issues, and as I said, they are normally cleared in a couple of minutes.

If you are referring to the brake fluid resevoir, it's at the back left side of the engine bay. A small white rectangular container, with a black cap (with wires going to it). See picture below.

If messing with brake fluid, be careful of a couple of things.

    1. It's a very effective paint stripper, so make sure if you need to top up, you surround the area with old rags first.

    2. Brake fluid should ideally be left untouched for 24 hours in it's container to allow any air bubbles to rise to the surface.

When using fresh brake fluid, try not to shake the can and introduce any air into it. It's makes bleeding them later more difficult and results in a spongy feeling pedal.

Thanks for the info, i take it the brake fluid resevoir is behind the engine cover? damn it i hate taking that thing off.

Well i think i fixed the blinking esp light, it stopped for some reason lol. For the ABS, it is still on but i think the car is running through the test stage as the only fault code i get is the one mentioned last, system function test. Just got to wait it out :(

Normally there is no need to remove the engine cover. It should be visible behind and slightly lower than the engine cover in the top left corner. Should be in this area (circled in red below) - Not your exact engine but similar layout.

The original problem occured to you taking the steering wheel off to get to the instrument cluster, the ESP and ABS lights would be on until you have performed basic settings.

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/ESP_System_Function_Test_%28Bosch%29#ESP_System_Function_Test

You didn't need to do this

what you should have done was:

     Hi

    Glad you got it sortedParty!!!

how are you getting on with the temperature sensor retro fit?

when you took you cluster out and re-fitted it were there any problems with the imobilizer?

I'm looking at fitting cruise control soon and would like to also fit Low screen wash warning too. I've already ordered the partsSurprise

the sensor was cheap, so I guess the outside temperature sensor won't be much either

I'm not getting much joy ordering electrical parts from VW they keep trying to sell you the whole harnessAngry

The low screen wash warning is a light on the dash and information in the Trip computer when the washer fluid runs low in the bottle. Basically the same as when the fuel runs low but screen wash instead. I've used a fair bit with the bad weather recently

it would come as part of the winter pack

Here is a clip from a passat look at time 1:49 to see the warning

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Px4iAJS18

You can enable this now with VAG-Com , but the warning will never go off

Eddie, slightly off topic (sorry Taurus), but have you actually found how to do the low fluid washer mod ?

The only side I could find is a German one (Team Dezent) and they have a PDF file explaiing how to do it, but it's all in German !

File location is here if you are interested ?

    http://www.team-dezent.at/anleitungen/waschwasseranzeige_nachruesten_g5.pdf

I'm just in the process of doing the TPMS mod as well. Got the switch and all cables connected, just need to run the one cable through the bulkhead and connect to the Pin27 of the ABS control unit. To be honest, I'm not looking forward to doing that as it looks a bit scary!

    Hi

I've had a look at the wiring diagram and the wiring for the sensor is on the same loop as for the ambiente temperature gauge. So only 1 wire needs to be added to the instrument cluster wiring

From my wiring diagram the Low Coolant Warning sensor G32, Ambient Temperature Sensor G17 and Low Screen Wash Sensor G33 are all on the same loop

From the 36pin Block (instrument Cluster J285)

Pin 36 - Brown and Yellow wire - (Pin 2 G17 Pin 1) - Brown and Blue Wire to Earth Connection 1 (410)

Pin 35 - Purple and Red wire - (Pin 1 G32 Pin 2) - Brown and Blue wire to Earth Connection 1 (410)

Pin 34 - Purple and White wire - (Pin 2 G33 Pin 1) - Brown and Blue wire to Earth Connection 1 (410)

Pin 33 - Brown and Blue wire to Earth Connection 1 (410)

    I've ordered the sensor Part no 7M0 919 376

The TPMS is fairly easy, check the loom before fitting as I had the problem that the ESP button wouldn't illuminate when the lights were on

    http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/299640.aspx

if you get stuck I can check my wiring diagram

if the figure of 8 doesn't work to clear the ABS light, try this in vcds..

"When this cannot be completed on its own fault code 01486 may be stored. It may be necessary to enter Basic Settings, Group 103, Go. "
