I know this seems an stupid question but does anyone else think they, take ages to get to 90 on water temp and for oil to warm up ( basing this on  other cars and how long they take  doin the same trip same outside temp parked outside not garaged etc ! ) ?? just normal comute to work in traffic .

Seems fine and drives fine just wondering if anyone else thinks the same ?

And YES i do realise its   -1 outside this time of year Stick out tongue

This time of the year it seems to take 3 to 4 miles of driving before my gauge reaches the 90 mark. However, unlike my MK5 warm air seems to be available earlier.

I had to wait 5 months for this car! Have now had it 7 months.

For my GT160 it's 4 miles of driving at 60 to get the water temperature to 90'c

Oil hits 50'c at 5 miles and is still climbing at 8 miles

    That was yesterday at 0'c

(BTW I find the oil temp gauge very useful in letting you know when you can really 'use' the car in this cold weather).

There's a known issue with some Golf Mk6, that the cooling-fan is running all the time, even in cold weather. Check that. The dealer-Golf I borrowed for a month, had the issue. According to local VW, it's a software-fault, which there's no solution for at the moment. Even in -20 degrees, the fan would be running, which made it impossible to get the car warm.

Ah so I am not the only one with a warm up issue, 2.0 TDI 140, taking at least 5 miles for gauge to climb off the stop and 10 miles to get to 90. Did not know about the fan issue, will check that when I get back from Singapore, definately warmer here!

The fan issue is worrying as my 25 year old Beemer has a viscous fan which works well, 3.5 litre and warms up within 4 miles to full temp, hot air into car within 2 miles.  Will pester the dealer if there is an issue here as a permanent fan these days is silly!

    regards

    dave

Yep does seem a bit more than other cars . all levels fine think it may be extra heat generated by charger and turbo on small engine. That is when you can get it warm in the first place LOL Big Smile

Yep, I've noticed this. It never seems to disappear, even after a 45 minute journey.

Mine used todo it really bad, as you know I had a leak on my turbo. Still smokes now but nowhere near as bad, does it an awful lot when reversing though
