Hello and let me say thank you in advance for any sound advice given.

After looking long and hard i got myself a mk4 tdi anniversary, ive been researching and speaking to various people on what are the best ways to squeeze  a bit more bhp and driving fun  out of it!

now the big one is the re map! ive spoken to a big firm that offer a, off the shelf map or a full custom map that takes into account any other modifications.

now what i need help on is the other modifications part... will a full system miltek exhaust (coming in at around 600 quid) really make any difference in the bhp stakes? (i no bigger turbos will help, but thats taking things to the next level.)

Any advice or previous experiences will really help.

    Thanks. Ben.

Without any mods you will probably get 180-190ish, maybe with the milltek you might get 10 more on top of that. Milltek improves the drive experience by allowing quicker spooling.

Rather than spending 600 quid..If you just get a decat you should see some good power with a good air intake-maybe just a panel filter and then a remap then you'll get good bhp with good amount of torque too

Be wary of your clutch going. I had mine remapped and needed an uprated clutch about 5 mins later. Depending on what state your current one is in, you may have to budget for a new one soon after your remap. That said, i read about people not having any probs with the factory one, so you may be lucky. Just my 10 pence worth from my experience!

when talking diesel mapping the BHP figure isnt really that important, its the nm/lb figures you should take more notice of really

more BHP.com map the 150 to only 182-184 but the NM/LB jumps from 310 to 430 which is very impressive compared to some of the other, better know tuners

others can map to over 200bhp but with 380(ish) nm/lb  but you wont get much from it with a TDI lump

Cheers guys for the advice.. i have herd that some people do get problems with the standard clutch and some don't.. its done 58000 and seems an all round tight motor! (but you never can tell)

Still in 2 minds about the milltek, some people say that you wouldnt notice much after shelling out 590 quid, yet the advert says the large bore down pipe causes quicker spooling!

Have any 150 tdi owners out there got a full milltek and a re map, that could shed some light on the matter???  (or are they just trying to squeeze a bit more of my hard earned out of me)

    Keep the advice coming!!!

    Thanks guys!

I had a mapped 150 with the full milltek on and yes it does make a difference by making the car a lot more responsive, also larger bore so just a decat would help a bit but not as much, the bigger bore is good for releasing hot gasses and therefor keeping turbo temps down so that should help it last longer and also gives you a nice noise of the turbo spooling better, wouldnt bother with aftermarket airfilter or induction as these make no difference in performance hardly if at all.Your clutch may go as mine did after a while but fitted a standard one as a replacement and that lasted well till i sold the car and as far as i know still going strong now probably pointing to it was worn or on its way out before, drive right and you should be ok as in dont go booting it in 3-4 from low revs just because you have massive extra torque. In other words do it mate you'll love it,just keep an eye on the crap designed intercooler hose clips for coming loose

Thanks for the advice guys, was much needed.. Think i will go for the full milltek (not sure to have the resonated or non resonated, dont want to spoil the anni by trying to make a tdi sound like something its not.

And the map is a definite must... now this is the big question... where is the best company to get a re map on the tdi..???

    thanks.

leach76  thanks for the reply, so you recon the non-res milltek then,, (can never remember which way round they are?? the one with or with out the extra silencer??)

i was thinking about an APR map from awesome, they seem a good bunch and there close to home!

do you know any one with a tdi whos had it done there? and what sort of numbers were they putting out... i would like to hit the 200 mark but its the torque thats the best bit i suppose.

    Cheers

Its been a few years since I had mine... and it seems 'inflation' etc has taken hold!  Awesome are doing the full system at the mo for £419.86 (As far as I can see from their website). I think they are still doing free fitting on them too.

Go for the unsilenced one... it doesnt sound much (If any) louder than the VW one.  The turbo whistle is nice and the do give a nice exhaust tone. Not 'Boy Racer' style though!
