I have had my TomTom One V2 for a little while now, and i have been using the mount that came with it.  However, its very poor, and always falls off.  Its a bit dangerous having the tom tom on your lap

I just wanted to know if anyone has bought a decent mount for it? Does anybody have any pics fitted etc?

I bought a vent mount kit for my Tomtom one, which i modified and fitted to the blank switch to the left of the hazard switch. Very discreet when no unit fitted and no unsightly ring marks on the glass!

Do you have a link forthe one you bought? any pics of the clip fitted? How easy was it to modify?

Glad to hear it is not just me I have exactly the same problem with mine its a complete mare.  Normally happens in traffic, everyone looks across and wets themselves laughing at you trying to either catch it or pick it up off the floor.  Or best of all it falls off mid a difficult set of S bends when you can least afford to stop concentrating on the task in hand.

I've resorted to fitting it as close to the A pillar and the bottom of the dash as possible - at least it is only a small drop down to the dash then.  Would certainly like to see some pics and links to where to buy the vent mod.

I have a Brodit pro clip and mount for my PDA, and it is very secure . They also do the mount for Tomtom one V2 and V3.

Thanks neil, looks a good piece of kit - do you think it would fit on the vent by the drivers door ?  As my work fitted hands free cradle is on a mount in front of the right hand vent of the centre vents so if I fitted it like yours I'd have no working centre vents !

Does the v 2 TT fit the v1 mount? Perhaps buy a v1 mount of ebay?

Think I will need to stick with the Tom Tom mount then as the car kit occupies the 1446 mount position and the 1449 position is no good in a 3 door due to the tilt and upward movement of the seat mechanism - this is where my car kit cradle was originally positioned but after it was ripped out three times by the seat being released to let people out of the back it had to be moved. 

It was fine however if you had the passenger seat in the fully back position but your rear passengers had to have 1cm thick legs to facilitate this !

Neil: That Brodit mount kit looks good.  Is it a permanent mount, or can the clip be mounted/unmounted when required.  I don't use the tomtom all the time, so dont want a permament mount

Yes, I've heard that cleaning the windscreen tip before, although the reason for doing it was to remove the tell tale sucker mount mark from the windscreen so the scumballs don't know you have a tom tom.  Don't always remeber to do it when I leave the car but do always leave the glove box down so they know it is not just hidden in it - its like going back in time to the days of pull out radios... how glad was I when someone invented the clip off front!

The mount that I have can be un-clipped, I have the cable coming from the glove box so I can store it the mount in there when not in use

@jdl, the 1449 mount isn't down on the center console so the seats don't get in the way. It looks like it clips between the trim at radio \ cubby hole area

The mount for the V1 is different from the V2\V3 mount unfortunately.

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread but I have just bought a Tomtom 920T and I was searching for mounting solutions for my Mk4 Golf..

I wanted a fixed power mount from which the Tomtom could easily be removed, in my line of sight, above dashboard level, hardwired to the vehicle ignition feed, with no trailing wires and so far as possible all the wiring out of sight. I do not like mounts that cover air vents or switches or suction mounts and as my phone already uses a "Brodit" mount to the side of the radio, that was not an option and it would not have been in my eye line anyway.

The Brodit Power mount for the 920T looked good but I needed something substantial to mount it to, not  the suction mount that came with the Tomtom and not something that was going to cover a vent or switch and most definitely not something that was going to mark or damage my car !

The bottom of the windscreen pillar on the drivers side was where I would like to have the unit situated. My solution to mounting it there was to fabricate my own alloy bracket and attach it to the substantial under dash mounting plate which can be accessed via the fuse box cover on the drivers side. The new bracket I made runs up between the fuse box cover and the end of  the dashboard just to the right of the steering wheel (just where I wanted the Tomtom to sit ! ) and it even allows the top of dash vent to blow behind it & over onto the side window !  .

To this bracket I then mounted a Brodit Power Mount (which has a swivel to allow some movement) and I ran the power wire back down under the new bracket into the fusebox area where I picked up a switched feed and earth. which I soldered onto the cigar plug contacts, insulated and tucked it up out of the way with a cable tie. (NOTE the Tomtom 920 does not use a 12v supply & it requires the cigar adapter to reduce the voltage to the correct level).

The TMC aerial was hidden away (despite indications that it would not work if doing this) by running it up the inside of the window pillar and back towards the back of the car for it's full length and "the egg" part sits just behind the new bracket. It seems to work fine picking up traffic information within a couple of minutes of switch on and so far on the few trips I've done out of main city areas it seems to continue to receive a signal & update without any problems.

The mount itself is very rigid (but needs a proper coat of satin black paint rather than the quick coat I gave it) and does not damage my car in any way. The Brodit Powered Holder allows a degree of  movement with it's swivel head while the Tomtom 920T easily clips in and out of the mount without any great difficulty. The Tomtom unit is set to power down whilst giving a ten second countdown on the screen, allowing me to cancel shutdown if I want, whenever the ignition is switched off. :) It is also set to carry on from whereever it left off on the next power up which allows me to stop en-route, power down the Tomtom and not have to worry about setting up the route again when I'm ready to continue.

I'm not too bothered about the holder (and my Talex Unit for that matter) being in sight of others as I always remove the Satnav & Talex unless I'm parking in my own garage at night or at the secure indoor parking at my office.

Not perhaps what everyone would go for but it's just exactly what I wanted and I thought I'd share this with anyone else looking for a similar kind of mounting solution in a Mk4.
