Im after a bit of advice, im looking at putting 18" or 19" RS6 rims on my golf mk5, im also looking at painting them black/gun metal/anthracite but i cant decide between 18s or 19s, ive seen a couple of pics of golf mk5s with 18s on and they look abit small whereas 19s seem to fill the arches nicely. the only thing im worried about going to 19s is the tyres being so low profile and if i hit a pot hole there could be some serious damage!

What are people thoughts on this? im also looking at lowering the car about 40ish mm with coilovers which could make the 18s look the part!

IMO it's 18's all the way mate.. 19's on lowered suspension with a very low profile tire is asking for a rough ride quality. Yes

    Spot on!

I've just changed my 19x9 rims for 18x8 rimz and the ride is like heaven in comparison....the rides better, handlings better, tyres are cheaper, cars faster, mpg isnt as bad etc etc...i could go on for a very very long while lol. Even getting them painted or coated is more expensive ( trust me ive done it )

18"z and some springs will look fine in my opinion.

i knw its not a mk5 but my bora's on 19s. fair enough its more expensive but in terms of ride quality and mpg i havent really noticed it. i guess it depends on how u drive it, i havent really noticed the handling issue either.

You can't go too wrong with ET45, but for me it has to be 19s all the way.  18s look too small IMHO.
