What engine oil do I put in my car?

While the manufacturer \ brand of the oil is not so important the fact that the oil meets the relevant VW technical specification for your engine and service regimen is, especially on the PD diesels.

Standard service regime:  Every 12 months or 10,000 miles

Long life service regime:  30,000 max for petrol, 50,000 max for diesel engines or 2 years. The sensors in the engine decide when the service is due (2001 onwards).

If your car is on long life service schedule and the oil is replaced with standard oil then the service regime must be changed to fixed.
