Was wondering whether anyone could help me out on this one. Whenever I drive my car after a short period of time (i.e. anything over 7-8 hours) I can hear strange creaking noises coming from the front end of the car everytime I go over bumps. The strange thing is the noise disappears after driving for a while. Could it just be the cold weather? I took the car into the dealers who couldnt dinf anything wrong with it, but changed the bushes anyways under warranty as they were slightly worn. The noise is still present everytime I get into the car in the mornings, so was wondering whether anything else might be causing it? Or is this normal?

    Thanks,
    V

I get a creaking noise when going over speed bumps following a cold start, seemingly from the rear,  but it seems to stop after going over two or three bumps. Can't tell if it's suspension or something in the interior though. It's been happening since I got the car (two years ago) but never seem to find time to get it into the garage.

Would love to know what direction to point VW in as, from previous experience, they're not very good at diagnosing faults unless you hold their hand.

It's the bushes apparently - trying to find out how to sort it...

It's not the bushes as my local dealer replaced both of them and the creak is still there on cold days.

Yeah i get this on my mkv tdi too.  Its sounds like the dashboards creaking, but it must be suspension related!

I'm baffled by it. It's more of a structural noise, as if the front end of the suspension / chassis is loose...but then once the car has warmed up the noise goes away. The dealers checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Confused

This is a very very very long shot but doesnt the engine expand slightly when warm so when the vehicle has been stood a decent amount of time could this be the slack in engine mountings or something else, sounds stupid i know but seems strange just when cold,my only other guess would be arb/bottom arm bushes etc

Mine wasn't so much a creak but a clonk - changed the front ARB bushes and silence - someone mentioned here in another thread the centre exhaust bracket broken. Could expand a bit when hot and not rub so much.

Well the car has been in the dealers all week and they still haven't found out what's causing it. They phoned earlier saying they couldn't find anything wrong, but will keep checking. Bizaare!

    An update:

Car went into the dealers and they replaced (1) anti-roll bar (2) anti-roll bar link arms and (3) n/s & o/s wishbone arms under warranty, and the noise has gone away. It could be one, two or three of these possible combinations.
