    Hi All,

I've been working hard to get some of the final details finished on my baby, ready for GTi International.  Am nearly there (just missing a few internal bits and painting of a couple more engine bits to match the main covers).  After another weekend hard at work, I thought I'd get some new pics up.

    What you think?

    Wigster.

    loving the car mateYes

Do you find with that front valance your limited as to how low you can go?

I have the same valance as you and my front is pretty high but I still scrape some road humps. I've already made a mental map of roads I cant go down to avoid scraping!

Got more lows, need arches rolled

    Hi guys,

Thanx for the positive comments so far.  Quite a bit of time & effort has gone into it (as with most of us on here).  Smile  I bought it with the wheels, lowering springs, exhaust and grille already fitted and have added to it from there by replacing the rear lights, fitting the bodykit and rear spoiler and loads of little bits & pieces.

Afro - I do have to be careful with the front lip, but for me, the sideskirts are the biggest problem as I risk scraping them on the slightest little thing (can't even pull into one mate's street as it runs down a hill and would beach the car on the sideskirts if I try to drive into it)!  My solution is simply not to go down any streets with speed bumps - if I come accross some, I have to turn back and find another way around.  lol.

    Wigster.

i like your car mate, lots of hard work has gone into i can see.  here two things i dont like, not too sure on the arial,  and i reckon debadge the boot, or at least the st georges flag.  but other than that i like it, really like the engine cover great contrast

    Good bye golf, hello warrior!

    Thanx Chris,

Always good to have feedback whichever way.  Yes  I have to say, I'm no fan of de-badging though.  The only thing I may be doing is swapping the 20V badge for one that says turbo, but I'm still thinking about this.  I put the St. George flag on and it's something I have on all my cars.  lol.  Patriotic old fool that I am.  Smile

I have to admit, the aerial was a cheap -Bay item that was supposed to help the spoiler not to hit it when I open the boot, but it would still hit, so I have to take it off each time I open the boot - not the best considered plan, that one.  Ha ha.

By the time I get to Inters, I'm hoping to have abattery box on it and painted to match, as well as the two water bottle tops on the left.  Then, that's my engine bay finished.  Smile

    Thanx again,

    Steve.

i see why people dont like debadging.. i only did it because i have a 1.6..  and i hope some people get confused and think its a gti Chuckle.  yeh i wished i had change my arial over sooner as the old one did a fair bit of damage to my spoiler lol.  but yeh keep up the good work and i like how you havent kept to same look, i think i need to be a bit more adventerous with mine lol

Looking good Steve - first time I've seen big pics of lots of angles of the car Yes

Valance looks well sorted - can't tell anything's ever happened to it from the pics.

    What are those wheels btw?

    Hi Jon,

Thanx for the positive vibe.  Smile

Sadly, these pics were taken a few hours before the valance was damaged.  It's ok now, but not perfect, so I'm gonna strip the whole rear bumper off it this weekend to try and make perfect again...  Surprise  I'm also gonna be repainting the grille (first time I'll ever have done paintwork) this weekend as it has bubbled quite badly - ya can see that if you look in the pics too.  Doh.

The wheels are BSA racing and were fitted by the owner before last (I know that as I wrote to all the previous owners and they all replied, which was very helpful).  Smile  I sourced and fitted the badges to them as they just had plain caps on when I received it.

    Steve.

Cripes, how many previous owners did you write to?  That's quite a lot of effort to go to - not sure I could ever be bothered to go to those lengths!

So what'd been done to the car when you got it and what bits have you done?

Don't worry, I won't be looking too closely at the rear valance at inters Wink

    Ha ha.

The car had 6 previous owners (a fact that very nearly put me off buying it), so I was also surprised to get replies from all of them.  It does tell you some useful stuff though - my car had a clutch replaced by the second owner under a warranty scheme, so the receipt is not in the history.  Great to know this has done 66k less miles than I thought it had, etc etc.

When I bought it, the car already had the wheels, lowering kit, exhaust, induction kit, grille & eyebrows fitted.  I added the bodykit, rear spoiler, rear lights engine painting and interior bits (not shown in pics yet).  Took me the first year to sort out most of the niggly bits as I am a true perfectionist, however, I think it's starting to get there now.  Cool

By the time we get to Inters, you'll never notice the damage to the rear skirt.  lol.  It's in pieces outside my house at the moment so I can get it perfect for the show.  Ha ha.

    Steve.

    Thanx everyone.  Yes

I wanted a large spoiler on the boot as I've always thought of the VW ones as a little on the small side - I did overlook the fact that I have to take the aerial off each time I open the boot now though, as otherwise the spoiler hits it.  Embarrassed

I've now got all the interior bits in and fitted, with the exception of the door handles (still need a set of R32 grab handles for 5 door car if anyone has some going for sensible money)...  Hint hint.

New pics to be posted shortly.

    Cheers Bobby.

They're BSA Racing Alloys.  They were on it when I bought the car and I believe they don't have the original centre caps, but I'm happy.  Smile

You got any more pics of your ride?

Has anything been done to it since Inters? Any other plans for it?  Although there's quite a lot been done already so that only really leaves..... big turbo! Big Smile

    Hi All,

I haven't updated this in ages, but have now got new eyebrows (without the cut-out), some shiney alloys pedals and footrest plus I've done the aluminium style fablon mod to cover the wood trim.  Pics to follow soon, if it's bright and sunny.  Smile

    Need pics!

Please forgive the quality - these were all taken on my phone, as I wan't expecting to take pictures!  The external shots were also taken in the basement car park at my work - great for polishing after dark, but not ideal for photos!

I need to re-do the fablon trim around the heater dials and I also still need to fix this over the internal door grab handles until I can get some R32 aluminium ones for a sensible price (ie under £100).

I bought the footrest through a seller on E-Bay called rich351golf.  He said he's also a member on here, but I can't remember his nick now.  The rest is pretty good quality though and matched the pedals nicely.  Yes

With the weather being so good (before the snow sets in), I took a few pics while back in Hampshire today. Shame it doesn't even remotely resemble this after 2 hours driving in the salt and snow!  Crying  These were only taken on my phone again, as I don't tend to plan for stuff as well as I should.  Chuckle

Thanx Mate.  Cool  I think everyone on here puts some real effort in to what they do, it's just the same bug that strikes in different ways.  I was at GTi International last summer (in the rain!) and it is impressive ot see so many different styles and ideas in one place.  I'm an ex Ford lad, so I go for big wheels, bodykits and spoilers and avoid anything that looks Euro, just different styles take different people, I reckon.

I took some snowy pics today as I was off work (day off already booked).

    Cheers,

    Hi Mate,

My car was lowered by the previous owner.  The receipt shows that it's had lowering springs, but it doesn't say the drop, just the make.  I was told it was 40mm drop and this seems about right when I've compared it to other cars on the road.

    You considering dropping yours?

yes, i was thinking of getting a set of budget coilovers or weitic 50mm damper kit. after considering, i just want the look of the 'lowering' and should get a set of lowering spring shortly, saw some pics with the eibach pro kit -30mm fitted seems not enough for me, the sportline looks about right with -50mm front / -40 rear... the current 4x4 look really...Embarrassed

I bought a set of Apex springs for my previous car - Escort GTi.  They were fitted for 2 years with no issues, so I found the quality excellent.  They also sell them for the Golf with a 40mm drop at a price of around £80...

Some new minor bits arrived today...  Smile  (I don't normally go for small things like the tax disc holder, but in this case, my old one had gone really yellow and looked pretty worn out.

Gonna get the sandpaper out later today and brush this up to look shiney like the R32 trim.

A couple of extra interior shots.
