Had the car from new since Nov 07. When I first got it it seemed Noisy when compared to my old GTTdi 130 and even some my mates said it was noisy. I just put it down to the car beign new and not run in.

8000 miles later and it is very noist indeed. I appreciate diesels are noisy but this is very intrusive and sounds like there is no sound insulation in the car. Couple of the guys at work have A3's and Passats with the same lump, and seem eerily quiet compared to the Golf.

Just want an idea if anyone else feels there's is noisy ? Tempted to book it in at the dealers but dont want to waste mine and their time so your comments are appreciated.

Anyone else with the same car in the Manchester area so we could compare ? i am willing to travel to you as it is doing my head in.

 do you mean its noisy when you are driving it! mine has a little road noise from the tyres but most cars do...i would say mine is quite in side while driving

Its fine when cruising on the motorway around 70 but moving up through the gears even when the engine is warm it seems very noisy indeed. Even my wife has commented on the noise and she could nto care less about cars.

My old GTTDI 130 was a lot quieter. I suppose I need to have a spin in another 140 TDI golf to see if there is a difference. Any NW Manchester area members willing to take me out for 5 mins in theres so I can compare. ?

 even going through the gears mine is quite..shame we didn't live a bit closer so you could compare mine to yours

My 170 tdi is very noisy too, sounds almost like a london taxi.

Ive never driven another to compare but I just assumed thats how they are??
