Right i have been having issues with fuel consumption recently and the engine revving erratically at idle intermittently.  I remember back to the days of my Mitzi Pajero and the awful fuel consumption on that being caused by the EGR valve.  Block it off, no probs.

So i have had the car checked with VAG-COM and as if by magic the EGR valve is playing up.  It keeps sticking at 94.6% (MAX), causing the car to of course over fuel to compensate.  If you blip the throttle it clears it for a time and it goes back to what it should, then it will suddenly go to max again.

Now i know that on a PD engine you cannot alter the settings or blank it off, so what can i do, has anyone else had this issue with a MKV?  Thanks

The EGR can be blocked off easily on the 1.9PD TDi engines with no problems - allard even do a delete kit for it.

Assuming that it functions in much the same way as the one 1.9 TDis, an easy way to see what happened would be to disconnect the vac pipe off the top off it to stop it functioning and just stopper the vac pipe off.

Let us know how you get on Yes

You can map out the EGR on a MKV, apparently it's easy'ish to do for a tuner.

Not sure if the same principal of blocking it off as with the 1.9 TDI will cause problems though.

Right i have spoke to a few people, apparently:

You can blank it off, Allard do a kit for it and assure me there is no issues with the ecu having a fit or anything, however they have only ever sold 1.

You can't remove it electronically, or 'map it out'.  The ecu will not allow this and if you try it does have a fit.

I am not sure what is true anymore, all i know now is that my car is doing a calculated 28MPG over the tank and is smoking so bad if i put my foot down you loose vision behind you.

    HELP!!!

on MK4's you can just unplug/delete it, simple.

but in newer cars the ECU's have a feature in there that will monitor the EGR to see if it's working correctly, and if it's not you will get a a check engine light.

i was under the impression it could be mapped out, but i have not really given it that much thought,

find out what ecu you have, and go on tdiclub and do some research about it. they bang on about it all the time.......
